While Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz will play a major role at the convention in her role as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), attention will also be on Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum who will be speaking in Philadelphia.

Gillum launched his political career in 2003 when, at age 23, he became the youngest member of the Tallahassee City Council.  In 2014, he was elected mayor of Tallahassee and there has been speculation that he would run for Congress though he passed up on running this year. Florida Democrats insist Gillum, who is now 36, is an up-and-comer for them and he has been active with the state party.

Back in February, Gillum threw his support to Clinton and he is penciled into be one her electors if she carries the Sunshine State over Republican Donald Trump in November.

"Hillary Clinton has put forward an agenda focused on moving our nation forward – and building on the tremendous progress made by President Obama. Her experience and legacy of leadership speak to the kind of purpose-driven president she will be, and the kind of commander in chief the American people deserve,” Gillum said when he endorsed Clinton.  "As a mayor, I understand the importance of bringing real and pragmatic solutions to the issues that face our communities. Hillary Clinton has put forward innovative ideas focused on making college more affordable, raising incomes for working families, restoring balance and fairness to our criminal justice system, and addressing issues of climate change.

"Hillary Clinton is the change-maker this nation needs,” Gillum added. “I believe she stands first and foremost for American progress, and I know she'll make a real difference in the lives of the people in Florida and all over the country."
