Amendment 13 is a Trojan Horse

October 19, 2018 - 1:00pm

As a veterinarian, I’ve spent my entire career caring for the health and wellness of animals. I’ve seen firsthand how farmers, horse breeders and pet owners care for their animals. I’ve also seen firsthand the impact of neglect and abuse on animals. This November, I plan to vote no on Amendment 13.

Amendment 13 is a Trojan Horse. While it appears to be an amendment to simply end dog racing, the fine print you won’t see on the ballot could have devastating consequences on Florida’s family farms.

Activists behind the amendment have openly declared their desire to remove meat, dairy and eggs from our diets. These same activists have said they are on a mission to end hunting everywhere. And they’re making progress. Animal rights activists have passed 30 measures through Congress and more than 1,100 regulations in the states.

Now, their target is Florida.

Amendment 13 declares “the humane treatment of animals is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida.” This type of vague, undefined declaration in Florida’s Constitution will be exploited by activist groups to bring lawsuits against family farms, equine enthusiasts and sportsmen.

Their efforts to end animal agriculture will devastate the family businesses that produce the food we feed our own families. We’ll be forced to import more food from countries that have lesser standards for the care of their animals. With businesses forced to close and higher prices at the supermarket, Florida’s economy will take a hit.

Don’t let this Trojan Horse find its way into Florida’s Constitution. A “No” on 13 is a vote against extreme activists with hidden agendas.

be afraid, be very afraid...

I believe there is something in the Bible that gives mankind control and power over all of the earth's animals (non-sentient creatures). The Bible is my guide.

Amen brother, most whacktivists, like proven liar fred there, are atheist

If you think dogs are "non-sentient" creatures, there is serious doubt as to your own degree of sentience. Or knowledge of dogs. Or science.

Agree with you Jeff! Serious doubts about her knowledge. Scary indeed.

Terrible manipulation of God's word for political purposes... No matter, all will be judged by his mighty hand...

Language: Phases out commercial dog racing in connection with wagering by 2020. Other gaming activities are not affected. The ballot is specific to "Greyhound racing" why do you think not?

Other gaming activities refers to other gambling. So do you know where dormite licenses are? There are 16, all waiting for this to pass Hope one isn’t around the corner from you.

That is what is printed on the ballot, now find the whole amendment with the parts that are left off the ballot, the lazy and misinformed that dont do research should not vote

So “the humane treatment of animals is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida.” is not something Floridians should want? What about the opposite, maybe we should want “the INHUMANE treatment of animals is a fundamental value of the people of the State of Florida.”? I'm sure there are some large food producing corporations that would go along with that, no?

We already have felonies in the FL Statutes for animal abuse, but the activists cant get anything banned the way it is worded as its criminal statute

Did you know crates and dog crating are illegal in Sweden? How would you like it if someone, an AR wacktivist, told you crating is inhumane, made it illegal, and you will be fined and/or jailed for crating your dogs?

Crating your dog for 23 hrs. per day and making them sleep in their own urine should be illegal. That's very different from the humane use of providing a crate for a dog. Just as putting a child in a playpen for 23 hrs. a day is abuse, though playpens themselves are useful if used correctly.

Your definition of "humane" must be just as whack-o as the definitions used animal rights radicals who think milking cows and owning animals for pets is inhumane,
