Gov. Scott Pushes Charter, Virtual School Expansion

Gov. Rick Scott embarked on a bill-signing tour of the state Monday, visiting schools in Ocoee, St. Petersburg and Fort Lauderdale in order to highlight the signing of a spate of bills expanding charter and virtual schools.

Scott touted the bills as a way to buttress his efforts to bring jobs to Florida by creating a highly-skilled and highly-educated work force.

Michele Bachmann Jumps into 2012 Race

On Monday, U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota formally launched her bid to become the Republican presidential nominee in 2012.

First elected to Congress in 2006, Bachmann, a favorite of the tea party, is claiming the wind is at her back and a number of recent polls have found that she seems to be gaining momentum in recent weeks.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota on Monday formally launched her bid to become the Republican presidential nominee in 2012.

Looking to be the first member of the U.S. House directly elected to the presidency since James Garfield did it in 1880, Bachmann made an informal announcement earlier in the month during a debate with the various Republican presidential candidates in New Hampshire.

Speaking in her old hometown of Waterloo, Iowa, Bachmann called for a constitutionally conservative government, which she insisted the Founding Fathers intended.

A new study reports that fewer than only about one in six charters participate in the Florida Retirement System and, thus, will be unaffected by the change in contribution requirements.

TSA Pats Down Cancer-Stricken 95-Year-Old Woman

If this had happened to my mother, I would have gone so ballistic, they would have me in leg-irons.

"The Transportation Security Administration stood by its security officers Sunday after a Florida woman complained that her cancer-stricken, 95-year-old mother was patted down and forced to remove her adult diaper while going through security.

"Reports of the incident took hold in social media, with scores of comments on the topic and reposts appearing hourly on Twitter Sunday afternoon.
