WASHINGTON -- The president of the Los Angeles World Affairs Council challenges critics of President Obama's Ukraine policy by saying "What are you going to do, send the 101st Airborne into Crimea?" Not exactly subtle. And rather silly, considering that no one has proposed such a thing.

Rick Scott's Vehicle Registration Fee Cut Gains Steam

Gov Rick Scott cheered the news that his proposal to roll back $400 million in vehicle registration fees passed the Florida Senate Appropriations Committee and the Florida House Finance and Tax Subcommittee.

Pope Francis Invited to Speak Before Congress by John Boehner

On Thursday, U.S. House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, invited Pope Francis to speak before a joint meeting of Congress. The pope is scheduled to visit Philadelphia in September 2015.

Boehner released the following statement on Thursday:

It is with reverence and admiration that I have invited Pope Francis, as head of state of the Holy See and the first pope to hail from the Americas, to address a joint meeting of the United States Congress.

David Jolly was sworn in to Congress Thursday afternoon, just a few days after his close victory over former Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink in CD 13. Sink and Jolly competed for the seat in a highly publicized election to replace the late C.W. Bill Young.

Florida Republicans and the Risks of Fighting the Inevitable on Marijuana

Florida Republicans must come to grips with a bill introduced by Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Shalimar, and Rep. Katie Edwards, D-Plantation, to legalize a strain of marijuana effective in helping children with certain conditions as well as a constitutional amendment placed on the ballot by Orlando lawyer John Morgan to legalize medicinal marijuana as prescribed by a doctor. Republicans should support both.

Rick Scott, Carlos Lopez-Cantera Honor 2014 Women’s Hall of Fame Inductees

Gov. Rick Scott and Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera joined Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, Commissioner of Agriculture Adam Putnam and Attorney General Pam Bondi Wednesday to honor three new inductees to the Florida Women's Hall of Fame.

The inductees were chosen from a list of 10 nominees selected by the Florida Commission on the Status of Women. According to a press release, the inductees were chosen in part because they "have made significant contributions to the improvement of life for women and all citizens of Florida."
