UF-LSU Game Off: Conference, Schools Will Scramble to Reschedule

The Florida-LSU football game scheduled for Saturday in Gainesville has officially been postponed due to Hurricane Matthew, it was announced Thursday -- following several missed decision deadlines.  The universities and the SEC Office said they will work to reschedule the game later in the 2016 season, if possible.

Florida State University announced Monday a number of changes in the traffic patterns fans are accustomed to on football game days, as well as additions to the list of items fans won't be allowed to bring into the stadium.

“We are all excited about the first football game of the season, and we want fans to have a safe, enjoyable day,” David L. Perry, the university’s assistant vice president for safety and chief of police, said in a written statement. “That’s why it is extremely important that they pay attention to the changes this year.”

Rick Scott held a “ceremonial bill signing” for legislation to advance a new spring training facility in West Palm Beach which will be home to the Houston Astros and the Washington Nationals.

American Pharaoh Started in Florida

American Pharaoh, who became the first horse in 37 years to win thoroughbred horse racing's Triple Crown, spent his early training days at Florida's McKathan Brothers Training Center near Ocala.

The Florida Horsemen's Benevolent and Protective Association (FHBPA) staked the Sunshine State's claim soon after the colt's acclaimed victory in the 148th running of the Belmont Stakes Saturday evening.
