Todd Wilcox Routs the Field in RLC Straw Poll

Businessman and Army veteran Todd Wilcox won a straw poll on Sunday as he continues his bid for the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., in the Senate. 

The Republican Liberty Caucus of East Central Florida hosted two of the Republicans running for the U.S. Senate this past weekend as Wilcox and U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., came to the Space Coast and took part in the forum. Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera recorded a minute and a half statement from Israel. 

Gov. Scott Signs 20 More Bills into Law

Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Wednesday a mixed bag of 20 bills, from a pilot program to locate special needs persons to a bill protecting Florida's shellfish beds. 

Also among these bills is SB 716, establishing a Holocaust memorial at the Capitol. The state Department of Management Services will build the memorial after it gets recommendations from the Florida Historical Commission. 

Republican Candidates Headed to RLC Forum, Straw Poll in Viera

Republican candidates will be converging on the Space Coast on Sunday to face the voters in a forum hosted by the Republican Liberty Caucus of Central East Florida (RLCCEF) with Sunshine State News playing a major role. 

RLCCEF Chairman Bob White announced over the weekend that two Republican U.S. Senate hopefuls--U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., and businessman and Army veteran Todd Wilcox--will attend the forum in Viera. There will also be a straw poll for the Republican nomination to replace U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and for state legislative races. 

Florida Chamber Announces Its 2016 Best Legislators for Business

Fourteen of the Legislature's 160 members earned the Florida Chamber of Commerce's Distinguished Advocate award for efforts they put in during the session just ended to champion  pro-jobs, pro-business legislation.

The chamber announces its list annually as a kind of "Legislative Report Card" based on how well they did making Florida more competitive through private-sector job creation, and putting that above special-interest attempts to protect the status quo.

Senate HHS Appropriations OKs Health Care Price Transparency Bill

Transparency in Health Care, Senate Bill 1496, jumped a major hurdle today when the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services passed the Gov. Rick Scott-favored legislation. Sponsored by Sen. Rob Bradley, R-Fleming Island, it is meant to increase the transparency and availability of health care pricing and quality of service information.
