You Mean We're Finally Acknowledging Northern Everglades Water 'Quality'?

August 9, 2019 - 8:30am

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board voted Thursday "to dramatically expand water quality monitoring within the Northern Everglades watersheds and Lake Okeechobee."

This actually was treated as one of the day's Big Stories.

Pardon me for laughing out loud.

Some 97 percent of the water coming into Lake Okeechobee from the north -- particularly from the Kissimmee area -- has already shown the lake's contaminated water originates on the highly developed northwest side of the Everglades' headwaters.

Florida's New Climate Change Czar: Better than a Scientist

July 31, 2019 - 8:15am
Julia Nesheiwat

Florida is about to get a climate change czar -- a key staffer charged with "adapting the most vulnerable state in the nation to climate change."

Apparently, say The Miami Herald and other newspapers that collaborated on the story, Gov. Ron DeSantis is set to announce the appointment of new Chief Resilience Officer Julia Nesheiwat. Maybe as early as today.

About that Panel of Algae Scientists: How Did Brian Lapointe Get Left Behind?

Brian Lapointe is almost everywhere.

Immigration, the Democrats' 2020 Waterloo

July 13, 2019 - 9:30am

As a Republican, I should just sit back smugly and watch. If the Democrats want to keep moving hard left on immigration, I should just keep my mouth shut and let them get on with it.

But if you know me at all, you know I don't keep my mouth shut. So here it is:

Immigration -- that one issue on its own -- will give the White House to Donald Trump  in 2020.

Hypocritical Debbie Mucarsel-Powell on Migrant Kids: All Talk, No Action

July 9, 2019 - 7:30am

It's hard to fathom Debbie Mucarsel-Powell. The Democratic congresswoman from South Florida spent the last month bleating about "prison-like conditions" in the overcrowded Homestead Temporary Shelter for Juveniles.

Yet, when she gets a chance to have a positive impact on the facility, what does she do? She votes AGAINST the Senate bill that would grant $4.6 billion in emergency aid to address the humanitarian crisis at the southern border.

Bill de Blasio: Honest-to-Goodness Communist Ties

July 4, 2019 - 8:00am
Bill de Blasio

Bill de Blasio is one scary guy. Particularly to Cuban-Americans. The liberal South Florida media may have tried to excuse away his cozy Che Guevara quote in Miami last week, but the New York City mayor and Democratic presidential hopeful has Sandinista ties that don't quit.

Harris Aside, Biden Still Wins One-Third of Democratic Voters

July 1, 2019 - 7:00am
I Beg to Differ

Joe Biden undoubtedly has to pedal harder. But to hear a gleeful mainstream media tell it on Sunday morning news programs, after the release of the first post-debate poll results Sen. Kamala Harris plunged the former vice president down the hopper.

That's absurd. Look realistically at what happened in Miami last Thursday.

According to Morning Consult polling, Biden lost 5 points to Harris of California, the night's debate winner. That's a big number for a candidate few voters knew much about.

On Night 2 of Democratic Presidential Hopefuls' Debate, the March to the Left Quickens

June 28, 2019 - 6:45am
Joe Biden, Bernie Sander, Kamala Harris

If Thursday night in Miami proved anything, it was that the middle ground within the Democratic Party is sinking fast. Moderation is losing. It's grown old and unattractive, apparently, and as creaky as a farmhouse staircase.

First-Night Democratic Debaters Struggle to Explain Nation's Economic Prosperity

June 27, 2019 - 9:00am
Wednesday night's presidential candidates on the Miami debate stage

In a nationally televised debate Wednesday night -- featuring half a cattle car of 2020 Democratic presidential candidates -- the first 10 stood in alphabetical order on a Miami stage arguing with their party, with each other, of course with President Donald Trump. But mostly, they were introducing themselves to America, doing their darndest to stand out in a crowd.

Three weeks ago the City of Riviera Beach agreed to pay hackers a $600,000 ransom to free the records they had encrypted when they took over the city's computer system. The incident is just coming to light outside the county, "probably because it's still part of a federal investigation," a city employee told Sunshine State News.
