Democrats Keep Whining, but They Got Their Way: Homestead Immigrant Shelter Stands Empty

For over a year now the Homestead immigrant housing facility has been a target of leftist outrage. As the immigration narrative was ramping up last summer, the politicization in Homestead began.

Former Sen. Bill Nelson and U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz demanded they be escorted in immediately, the directors told them a scheduled visit was required, and the whole business culminated in a tour that showed the facility defied their claims of inhumane conditions.

The reporting of the accurate details inside the facility has done little to curtail the wailing in the media. In June a collection of Democrats from Washington, D.C. descended on Homestead for a premises inspection. When Congresswoman Frederica Wilson and a number of others emerged, they were incapable of continuing their narrative of concentration-camp conditions. This did not deter them. They continued to complain forcefully, going so far as to declare that anyone who dares criticize members of Congress be arrested.

For the first presidential debate, many of the candidates tried to gain traction by demonizing the facility and all who were involved in running it -- inaccurately, of course. Elizabeth Warren decried the conditions from outside while never going inside. She also insisted emergency spending was needed for the border crisis, while missing a vote the day before -- on emergency spending for the border. Bill DeBlasio called for an immediate closing of the immigrant holding facility, giving no plan at all what to do with the numerous underage children housed there. Turn them out on the street, is a best guess.

Now news arrives that proves the Democrats are apparently more in need of an outrage than a solution. The announcement was made that the children housed in Homestead have been relocated. "They have either been reunified with an appropriate sponsor or transferred to a state-licensed facility within the ORR network of care providers as of August 3, 2019,” say authorities.

This should certainly come across as good news. After all, very few kids are now being housed, and the facility Democrats demonized and laced with accusations from activists is nearly empty. But they are STILL upset. Now the issue is that the Florida Immigrant Coalition is demanding they be provided with information on where all the children have been dispersed.

Authorities announced that most of the children -- an overwhelming majority of whom arrived here as unaccompanied minors -- were placed with verified family members or foster families, with those remaining being relocated to other facilities. The Homestead location had stopped taking in new arrivals in early July, and the threat of a tropical storm aimed at South Florida a few weeks ago was the last straw.

This should have made all of the political cranks satisfied, considering it was the specific result they had been demanding. Yet, just as their pet issue was seemingly satisfied, they were not. Wasserman Schultz found reason to continue making insinuations and pronouncements about the issue.

“I will seek a full accounting of where these hundreds of children who were reportedly relocated from the Homestead detention center ended up. While this is being portrayed as a safety measure, given this Administration’s abysmal and cruel track record, I fear it’s an attempt to skirt scrutiny and accountability.”

This is little more than political peacocking. DWS has nothing to base her charge on, citing her “fear” something untoward is taking place. The last time she harbored such fears about the Homestead location, they were proven to be completely without merit. But those fears always get reported -- the revelation of no actual issues is not such a compelling headline.

If you are to be believed - why were all the children taken out in the middle of the night? The question now is where are the children? With this presidential administration we have to assume the worst.

Why does the time of day of the evacuation (which was never noted) matter in any fashion?

This quote from the article summarizes the the entire mission and purpose of the Democrat (read anti-American Communist) Party in America: "...the Democrats are apparently more in need of an outrage than a solution."

Actually, the Democratic Party in America is anti-Fascist. (Look it up.)

The same democRAT party that created the KKK.

. . . . and what party do they belong to (and vote for) today . . . . . . it isn't Democrats . . . . . . to try and spin otherwise is purely . . . . . . PATHETIC . . . .

The fascist democrat party.
