Bumping up Support of Israel Will Counter Iran's Nuclear Ambitions, Buchanan Says

Last week, with reports that Iran has violated the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) by attempting to boost its uranium production, U.S. Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., came out swinging at that nation and threw his support behind a bill to increase American support for Israel.

Buchanan weighed in on Wednesday after Iran violated the JCPOA set up by the Obama administration.

“Iran is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism and has a clear history of cheating on international arms inspections,” Buchanan said. “It is important now more than ever to protect Israel’s right to defend itself and maintain our unwavering support. That is why I’m supporting the U.S.-Israel Cooperation and Regional Security Act.”

Buchanan backed the proposal from U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., the chairman of the U.S. House Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, which increases support for Israel by $3.3. billion annually through 2023 and adds $1 billion over five years to add more weapons in the U.S. War Reserve Stockpile located in Israel.

The Florida congressman insisted that strong American support of Israel can help counter Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“Tehran continues to show it was only interested in nuclear development and regional hegemony, not peace and stability,” Buchanan said. “When it comes to combating Iran’s ambitions of nuclear development and spreading terrorism, there is no daylight between America and the Jewish State of Israel.”

Buchanan joins around 250 other cosponsors of Deutch’s proposal which is facing a host of committee stops. The bill is currently before the U.S. House Foreign Affairs; Armed Services; Science, Space and Technology; Agriculture; Energy and Commerce; Judiciary; Homeland Security; Transportation and Infrastructure; and the  Veterans Affairs Committees. The bill has also been sent to the U.S. House Biotechnology, Horticulture, and Research; Constitution, Civil Rights, and Civil Liberties; Cybersecurity, Infrastructure Protection and Innovation; and the Aviation Subcommittees.

"If the US desires" - (a) The US is a homeland for about 330 million people. It is not capable of independently desiring anything. (b) The underlying medieval commonality between three of the geographic regions you mentioned (Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Palestine) is Islam. Iran is by far the most troublesome to the world right now, and Palestine is their willing proxy. (c) To get an idea of who we have more in common with, consider taking a lengthy stay (at least a few months) in Iran, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, or Israel and take a guess which one you are most likely to be able to leave with your head still attached.

This was meant as a response to "Canadian" below.

The chickenhawks are only interested in starting up with iran because of Israel. In the real world, the U.S. has enough nuclear firepower to put a big hole where Iran once was. Same regarding North Korea - and they both know it. Let 'em play around with their "nuclear capability". In the end, they'll have their "Khruschev Moment"! (The Israelis are the tail that wags the dog.)

"The chickenhawks are only interested in starting up with iran because of Israel" B.S. Iran has been extending it's military influence everywhere it can do so (Yemen, Syria, Gaza, etcetera). It is costing lives and treasure. Just because Iran can't win doesn't mean that they're not willing to try - we see them doing so.

If the US desires to end all life on earth through thermo-nuclear meltdown, than voting in favor of this would make perfect sense. Otherwise: a) Iran is NOT Saudi Arabia. American pundits are always blaming all the Saudi evils on Iran. Saudi Arabia is the #1 uncontested supporter of Islamic extremism and terrorism NOT Iran! -(b) Israel is not a reciprocal friend to the US, they are thieves in Palestine, and they are extorters of the US. They have never shown any remorse or gratitude or even care to anyone including the US, and they have no loyalty whatsoever.

When the majority of Syrians rose up, Iran showed up to help Assad butcher them with chemical weapons and barrel bombs. 500,000 casualties, cities in ruins, an estimated 5,000,000 fled their homes flooding Europe and a war there continues today. Iran provided the IED's that killed or crippled American soldiers in Iraq, they financed the Hezbollah operation that killed 294 Marines in Beirut back in the 1980's. They provide missiles and rockets to the Houthis to fire at Mecca. They try to ship weapons into Gaza to destroy any hope for peace. They tried to stir up a revolt in Bahrain. Don't be confused about the motivations of the Islamic Republic. In their quest to dominate the Muslim world they focus on eliminating Israel, they sabotage any hope for peace. Like Russia they want to regain lost power and influence at the expense of ours. They probably killed a few Canadians soldiers in the Iraqi mess as well.
