DeSantis Appoints Richard Prudom Secretary of Elder Affairs

Gov.-elect Ron DeSantis announced Thursday he has appointed Richard Prudom to serve as secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. A long-standing deputy secretary of the department, Prudom will lead the agency beginning in January, as the DeSantis-Nuñez Administration takes office.

Richard Prudom
“Richard Prudom is a proven and dedicated public servant with extensive leadership experience within Florida's government and I am pleased to announce he will continue his service to our state as secretary of the Florida Department of Elder Affairs. I have full confidence that Richard will continue to work tirelessly to ensure Florida’s elders remain healthy, safe and independent," said DeSantis.

Prudom has served as deputy secretary and chief of staff for the Department of Elder Affairs (DOEA) since 2011. He worked closely with the 11 area Agencies on Aging and has led several vital initiatives.

Before serving at DOEA, Prudom worked as the director of financial management for the Department of Corrections, where he managed the $2.3 billion operating budget and over 400 contracts of the department. Prior to this role, Prudom served the Department of Corrections as chief of staff, where he helped advise the secretary on a number of internal and external policy matters while working to set the agenda for the agency and ensured that its mission was met.

Patients with Medicare Extra help..QMB and Medicaid and Medicaid share cost or medically needy are being dumped by pain management who use injections so I don't have to put pills in my mouth. Because doctors can't get their money from the state of Florida. The oldest..poorest and sickest are losing our independence by being forced to suffer pain that is treatable by alternative methods. Being dumped to psychiatric for medications that make us sleep thru the pain and eventually cause Loss of independence requiring incarceration in a nursing home or some such place. Forced to suffer spinal cord pain and headaches from hell with monthly copays of 800.00 900.00 dollars each month that we can't pay. Ruins our credit to the extent that we don't qualify for decent affordable housing much less an affordable electric deposit or much needed automobile payments. Transportation to and from doctors appointments 7 miles away,or more leave me on a bus ALL DAY Inhumane treatment being herded like cows all day just to see a doctor for 10 minutes. Shame on all of you We are NOT living well !!! We get a department Of corrections bean counter to manage our health toward living in facilities like unwanted animals. Tortured in pain until we give up and die

How many elders are getting 16.00 mth foodstamps living on an income of 900.00 with a Medicaid share cost copay of 810.00 not to mention that I also pay for a part d that alleges my insurance saved me $27,000 in prescription costs last year No wonder I see so many people turning to alcoholism and smoking pot which actually destroys their health even more (Which elevate medical expenses in the long run) because they can't get affordable alternative pain management shots or physical therapy for pain. The drunk driver that rear ended me spent less than 24 hours in jail and paid a fine for nearly killing me Florida the insurance State defers me to preexisting conditions further denying me money for medical bills and dumped to federally funded Medicare Extra help that actually converts/ penalizes me 810.00 month copay and this qualifies me for $16.00 in foodstamps Your PROGRAM called SHINE FOR SENIORS how humiliating to see LIHEAP provides GRANTS ? To help low income households meet immediate home energy needs. Reading your article that lifeline provides 9.25 month discount towards a phone landline that charges 80-100 mth for a landline. None of it makes any sense when seniors are put on a waiting list 4-5 years for affordable housing. God forbid that we own our own homes..out dated electrical and plumbing just begging for code enforcement to red tag us literally making a person homeless because Wal-Mart wants my land for a trucking driveway to the back of their store. Everyone in my block became homeless. Our homes and everything we own sitting there for the homeless crackhead from Wal-Mart to steal and burn down. We are broken people with all of your claims of programs that exist on paper and help no one. Thieves and liars All of you
