A week after the primaries, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) included two candidates from the Sunshine State as part of its “Young Guns” program.

The NRCC included twelve candidates from across the country in the latest round of its “Young Guns” process. State Rep. Mike Miller, R-Orlando, who is challenging freshman U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., was included as a “Young Gun.” So was broadcaster Maria Elvira Salazar who is hoping to defend the South Florida seat currently held by retiring U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla. Salazar will face former U.S. HHS Sec. Donna Shalala, who led the University of Miami, in the general election.

U.S. Rep. Steve Stivers, R-Ohio, the chairman of the NRCC, weighed in on the new “Young Guns” on Tuesday.

“We have no shortage of compelling candidates in our Young Guns program,” said Stivers. “I’m thrilled to support this impressive, diverse group and look forward to welcoming them to Congress, where we can continue working to protect our communities and ease Americans’ cost of living.”

After Murphy upset longtime U.S. Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., two years ago, Miller represents the best chance Republicans have to flip a congressional seat come November. On paper, Shalala offers one of the best chances Democrats have in the nation to take a seat from the GOP.

There are also other congressional races in Florida that are expected to be competitive with Democrats having high hopes that Lauren Baer can defeat freshman U.S. Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., in November. Democrats are also targeting U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo and Mario Diaz-Balart, R-Fla., in South Florida. With U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., running for governor, Republicans hope veteran and former Dick Cheney aide Mike Waltz can defend that seat from Democrat Nancy Soderberg who served as a deputy national security advisor to President Bill Clinton.

Anybody BUT "Shalala-boom-diddy-yay"......(She's alwats been a "Clinton acolyte")-----(However, if she were to win, at least she would be removed from indoctrinating young college minds with "lately spewed Democrat pablum"..!

I agree! I'm still hanging on as a registered Republican, thoroughly disgusted with the putridness of Trumpism and what the party seems to be standing for in this decade. Voting Dem. in Nov. as a protest vote seems to be my only alternative this time around. So sad!

Thank you. We need a good center right party but the only way that is going to happen if the Trump followers lose...…... I left the party decades ago during Reagan/Bush because they preached fiscal conservatism I am, but they practiced corporate welfare and huge tax cuts for the rich and massive deficits we now have because of them, a near depression in 2008, again because of their policies...……...And their Southern Strategy by pandering to racists, the far right...……….And now to their surprise, they took over!

Stupid designation ... "Young Guns". Enough "guns", already! Especially in this state!

People who think like YOU shouldn't even think of getting a gun for protection "Ted",....(unless you can find "kevlar" shoes somewhere) ! ! !

Young Gun? Miller looked rather old, like repub thinking. Well there are a large number of women, young coming for your butt added to the decent people of all types as recent election showed, you are going to lose a lot of seats as Trump becomes more hated and Trump Chumps in November get voted out...……………..Well that will teach you pandering to the racists, southern strategy, far right idiots, etc...……..So bad Fox News had to say they don't condone the racist monkey comments by DeSantis who no longer tries to hide it, wouldn't even apologize ...…………….Now they control the party, HaHa!...…………...The best thing decent repubs can do to save the party and throw the bums out is vote Dem.
