The parrothead primary is over as iconic singer Jimmy Buffett endorsed former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., for governor on Monday. With two weeks to go, Graham is the favorite to win the Democratic gubernatorial primary.

Buffett, who is active on environmental issues in the Sunshine State, praised Graham and compared her to her father, former Gov. and U.S. Sen. Bob Graham, D-Fla.

“Like her dad, Gwen will put the interests of everyday Floridians first,” Buffett said. “She has a heart for people and a passion for the Sunshine State. She’ll protect our precious natural environment, ensure we have strong public schools and affordable health care.

“It’s been too long since we have had a governor for all the people,” Buffett added. “For that reason, I am supporting my friend, Democrat Gwen Graham, for governor and I encourage ya’ll to do the same.”

This isn’t the first time that Graham relied on Buffett’s support. Back in October 2014, Buffett hit the campaign trail to help Graham when she successfully challenged then U.S. Rep. Steve Southerland, R-Fla.

The Graham campaign announced that Buffett will perform at a rally in South Florida for their candidate on August 23, only a few days before the primary on August 28.

“Jimmy isn't just a legendary musician, he is also a dedicated environmentalist who has worked with my family for years to preserve Florida's natural treasures," Graham said before referencing one of Buffett’s classic songs. "I am proud to have earned his vote on election day – come that Tuesday, it’ll be alright."

Polls shows Graham leading the Democratic primary field with former Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine and billionaire Jeff Greene battling for second. Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum and businessman Chris King are also running for the Democratic nomination.

Good ol'Jimmy is a South Alabama boy who hit the big time and never looked back. I do not really see his opinion any better than those of the Hollywood Elite. His corporate lawyers and stockholders make his decisions....biggest concerns revolve around the bottom line and where to plop the next Jimmy Buffet souvenir stand. He is going to have to get out and get his feet and hands dirty promoting environmental advocacy before I can really take him serious. Florida's environmental resiliency lies in the strength and tenacity of those folks on the ground...informed residents and voters.

Haters gonna hate. The Party of Trump is as bankrupt as he is. Must be hard to explain their stupidity to their family and friends.

Poor Jimmy - Too much time in Key West has FRIED his brain...

Jimmy who?

Jimmy speaks to and for real Florida people, not carpet baggers and transplants... go back to where you came from and take Butnam and TreSantis with you...

Spelled Putnam and DeSantis... Real Floridians...can spell. Their platform is more than "hate Trump". You should probably not talk about trans people so vehemently. You are supposed to represent the non-haters...but...again...we know.

no surprise you missed that one, the uneducated white majority for Trump the Chump...

I used to enjoy Jimmy when I was younger...but then I grew up. His "musical" philosophies are more along the lines of Peter Pan and "never grow up". A perfect description of what this party is sliding into. To be as successful in business and merchandising he leaned towards the Capitalistic path. www.fullyfreefilms.com

YOU 'rank' right up there with "Sonny & Cher" Jimmy,.. "dead & near dead".
