Marco Rubio Wants Federal Task Force to Examine Affordable Housing

July 23, 2018 - 6:00am

Last week, U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., joined a host of senators from both sides of the aisle to call for a task force to examine affordable housing.

Rubio joins Republican U.S. Sens. Cory Gardner of Colorado, Dean Heller of Nevada and Todd Young of Indiana, Democrat U.S. Sens. Maria Cantwell of Washington, Chris Coons of Delaware, Doug Jones of Alabama and Tim Kaine of Virginia and independent U.S. Sen. Angus King of Maine to launch the “Task Force on the Impact of the Affordable Housing Crisis Act.”

According to Rubio’s office, the proposed task force “will evaluate and quantify the impact of housing costs on other government programs and provide recommendations to Congress on how increase affordable housing options in order to improve the effectiveness of other federal programs.”

“It is imperative that Congress address the affordable housing crisis that is hurting families across the country,” Rubio said on Wednesday. “This bill would help do that by establishing a bipartisan task force that will help make upward mobility more attainable for working class families in the 21st century. I am proud to support this bipartisan legislation so that more of America’s children and families will have a chance to realize their potential.”

“As I travel throughout Indiana, I consistently hear about the need for more affordable housing,” Young said. “It’s clear that we need a better understanding of this crisis in order to make the policy changes necessary to help families succeed. Our bill would bring together a group of experts to evaluate the affordable housing crisis and identify solutions to help lift up millions of struggling individuals.”

“This year we were able to boost the Low Income Housing Tax Credit, which has built 90 percent of affordable housing in our country,” said Cantwell. “More needs to be done to get to the root causes of the affordable housing crisis and show that the LIHTC is cost-effective and creates jobs.”

The task force would examine the impact of the lack of affordable hosing on income, health, education, employment and other areas, see how it impacts government programs and make  recommendations to Congress on how current federal programs can offer solutions.

How in the world do we get from affordable housing to immigration? The fact is that in most cities, police officers, teachers, fireman and other critical skill people can't afford housing. Affordable doesn't mean just for the poor. Affordable housing is housing that all the different income levels are able to live in. In San Francisco you can get a subsidized apartment if you make less than $120000 per year because that is 80% if their median income. How many teachers do you know that can afford that kind of housing? This is a crisis for all middle class families and it doesn't have anything to do with immigration. Affordable housing means that you spend about 30% of your income for housing. Anything more than that is a financial burden on the family. We aren't talking about immigrants who for the most part aren't qualified for subsidized housing, we are talking about the people who work in the hospitals, and firehouses, and schools that we all need as a community. Thanks Senator and good luck on what you find.

The problem is too much government. The last thing we need is more government involvement. Everything the government touched becomes more expensive, less efficient and riddled with corruption. Look to healthcare. Look to education. How about we stop the massive devaluation of the dollar? How about we eliminate the burdensome regulations surrounding the building of houses and apartments? Government is the problem, not the solution.

Take away all the fees, red tape, and the boundless profit motive ... and any self-respecting builder here should be able to put up affordable single-family houses in Florida on individual lots - similar in size, style, and amenities to what Habitat for Humanity regularly builds in Florida in Lee, Charlotte, DeSoto, Sarasota, Manatee counties, etc. (?)

THIS IS MY RECOMMENDATION AND IT IS NOT LIKELY TO BE A POPULAR ONE, BUT HERE IT GOES. WE SHOULD STOP ALL FORMS OF IMMIGRATION AND GET OUR COUNTRY BACK IN ORDER. WE SHOULD PUT AN END TO ALL ANCHOR BABIES. WE SHOULD NOT BE THE WELFARE CAPITAL OF THE WORLD WHERE EVERYONE IS INVITED. YES, PUT AN END TO ALL FORMS OF IMMIGRATION FOR AT LEAST A PERIOD OF FIVE YEARS OR MORE. IF SOME ONE MARRIES A FOREIGNER THEY ASSUME THE RESPONSIBILITY THEMSELVES AND MARRY AT THEIR OWN RISK. MADE IN AMERICA, BUY AMERICAN, AND MARRY AMERICAN. WE WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT THE DAMNED WORLD AND REFUGEES, BUT COULD NOT GIVE AN EXCREMENT ABOUT OUR HOMELESS POPULATION WHICH IS NOW EXPLODING HERE. MANY HAVE TALKED ABOUT TAXES AS I HAVE BEEN READING FROM NUMEROUS SOURCES, AND I MORE THAN AGREE IT IS A MAJOR ECONOMIC DISEASE WE SHOULD ALL ADDRESS. LOOK AT WHAT THESE TAXES ARE BEING SPENT FOR, AND LOOK AT THE GRANT MONIES BEING GIVEN OUT, AND SURELY WE DO NOT NEED TO SPEND TAX OR ANY MONEY STUDYING GRANDPARENTS ANYWHERE, IS IS ONE OUT OF A THOUSANDS OF EXAMPLES. AT THIS RATE VOTING IS BECOMING A BAD INVOLVEMENT TO ENDORSE OR SUPPORT JUST ABOUT EVERY CANDIDATE. ONE THING WE MUST WAKE UP TO, IS THAT AMERICA IS NOT A GREAT COUNTRY IT IS A DISSOLVING ONE. JUST ABOUT EVERYONE IS A MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE, AS TRUMP TRUMPS HIS BUSINESS EMPIRES OVERSEAS, HIS DAUGHTER HAS WORSE THAN SLAVE SHOPS IN CHINA AND ELSEWHERE PRODUCING HER BRAND NAMES, AND NOT TO FORGET ANOTHER MANCHURIAN OBAMA WHO HAS ABSOLUTELY SHREDDED THIS COUNTRY INTO BITS AND PIECES, AND OF COURSE EVERYONE ELSE JUST CHIME IN AND KILL US ALL. THE ENTIRE PLANET IS NOW DUMPING THE DOLLAR, WE ARE NO LONGER THE WORLDS RESERVE CURRENCY, THAT WILL MAKE THE DOLLAR EVEN WORTH LESS AS HYPERINFLATION BEATS US TO A PULP, ALONG WITH TARIFFS IN PLACE. PEOPLE ONLY SEE WHAT THEY WANT TO SEE. WE DO NOT OWN THIS COUNTRY, BUT GUESS WHAT FOLKS, THE REST OF THE WORLD DOES.

WOW !

This is better known as political "GHETTO BUILDING" to alleviate crowding in inner-city areas overloaded with "Illegal Alien Invaders"..., as well as 250,000 Puerto Rican "escapee" U.S.Citizens who have no desire to return to Puerto Rico, and rebuild it..! (In Senator Marco Polio's eyes, these INVADERS are nothing more than "VOTES" (IF they can be motivated with "gifts & entitlement" PROMISES ! ) WAKE UP AMERICA,...WAKE THE HECK UP !!!

...as you speak from your gov't sponsored trailer park... pathetic. Take your fat can back to NY and get a job fat boy...

No blatant racism or bigotry here, against even American citizens who have the freedom to move (and vote) anywhere in the U.S. they desire! . . . . . . what would you do, C Breeze? . . . . . take away their American citizenship because you hate them and they're not like you !. . . . . . . . . . . . . PATHETIC . . . . .

not going to be an issue that his party will take up. This is merely a vote grab. You better do something, 'cause people are losing the opportunity to find a place to live. I'm not sure giveaways are the answer, but ghettos aren't either...

Provision of Affordable Housing is not a one size fits all issue. If the feds want to look at making it more affordable DON'T create new regulations regarding construction of homes. Eliminate some regulations that impact the supply and demand of the materials to build affordable housing. Find ways to incentivize the same for the states and local governments.

No new "building regulations"?!?!?...this is exactly how Puerto Rico, Haiti, and every other "3rd World hovel country" was created, to await "Mother Nature's wrath..!. When a country's citizens do not possess the wherewithal to rebuilld their own disaster-ridden country, WHY ON EARTH WOULD WE INVITE THEM TO POPULATE OUR COUNTRY?!?!? (merely for VOTES, to appease greedy POLITICIANS?????) Not only NO,.. but HELL NO !!!

Puerto Ricans are already citizens dumb ass...

learn about LIHTC. they were created under Ronald Reagan. they are market based, have risk and work. give away program destroy america, this is not. still, some will be poor, always, that is life

Question: Who really benefits from the affordable /subsidized housing? Where is the affordable/subsidized housing being built? Is the affordable/subsidized housing being build where there is public transportation? How do the people who live in affordable/subsidized housing vote? Is this Social Progressiveness? A new form of political redistricting? If the " We the People" continue to not pay attention to what is happening every day in our Local, State and Federal Government "We the People" will have no one to blame but ourselves. WAKE UP AMERICA - the Government gets its money from "We the People who pay taxes". That tax base is getting smaller each day, The more the Government spends/subsidizes, the more people will be less responsible and want the Government to take care of them. STOP BEING LAZY BEFORE WE LOOSE OUR COUNTY!

Just check out SWEDEN if you want to see a beautiful country, and its people, "swirling in rapid violent decline" under uncontrollable 'death dealing, ILLEGAL ALIEN INVADER crime, violence, rape, pillage and murder...! Go ahead, "google" it, and learn what American politicians are creating HERE IN THE USA with this ancient "Trojan Horse" mentality..! (All "in the name of VOTES and phony 'human rights' gobble-de-gook NONSENSE designed to "numb & dumb down" America's own population) WAKE UP !!! ("Google" Sweden, Germany, France, Italy, Belgium, etc., etc...

What's with the -->All "in the name of VOTES . . . . immigrants can't (and don't vote) . . . . . . if you're attacking American citizens for moving into Florida and voting, that's just . . . . . . . . PATHETIC

Just when Marco starts to grow neural cells, a bit of a spine, etc., you turn on him...why? Because he dares to question the Donald's capitulation to Russia. Or was it the tiny hands stuff? Go Marco!

Little Marco is inserting himself into any and every opportunity to be noticed. He needs to be taken out in a GOP Primary. We have enough problems without him turning over every rock to find more for the purpose of getting his face on camera.

Ah, a true believer in the vile Trumpian politics of personal destruction . . . . . . . . as always . . . . . . . . . PATHETIC . . .

Please do not vote for Marco. Ignore all the free press he is being given. He's bad for America.
