Article V Convention on Term Limits Backed by RLC of Florida

‭At its board meeting last week, ‬the Republican Liberty Caucus (RLC) of Florida unanimoulsy backed a proposal in the Florida Legislature to hold an Article V convention to amend the U.S. Constitution for congressional term limits. ‭

“‬Career politicians in Congress have stopped listening to the people,‭” ‬RLC of Florida Chairman Bob White said on Sunday.‭ “‬With a term limits convention,‭ ‬we can restore the citizen legislature as our founders intended.”

‭Florida Sen. Aaron Bean, R-Jacksonville, and state Rep. Larry Metz, R-Groveland, are pushing a resolution in Tallhassee to hold an Article V convention. If 34 states approve the convention, it will be held.

It requires 34 applications from 34 states to cause a convention call. You can read the 766 applications from 34 states at www.foavc.org. This includes some 32 applications already submitted on term limits.

Like many across the country, I've spent decades observing the over-reach of our ever-expanding federal government, and more recently, with the introduction of social media, most of my time has been spent just griping about it. It's time to focus on something more than just identifying the problems... it's time to pursue a permanent solution, to remove the fuel from the power brokers - it's time to impose mandatory term limits. We have them for the presidency, and thank God for that... given today's thirst for unattenuated power, I can't even imagine the frightening possibilities. It's time to impose them on the legislative and judicial branches, as well. It's time to return the country to what the Founders envisioned, a nation of Citizen Legislators who go to Washington but for a moment to contribute their service to the honorable task of self-governance, then return to their communities to live in the world they helped to create, along with the rest of us. According to the Supreme Court, the only way to do that is with a constitutional amendment, and it’s highly unlikely that any such amendment would ever be proposed by Congress. That leaves only a state-driven amendments convention as proscribed in Article V, and as discussed in this article. It's not a silver bullet... it won't bring an end overnight to the corruption and manipulation of our electoral system by the institutional elite, but it sure as heck would make The Establishment’s job a whole lot harder. What the 22nd Amendment accomplished with term-limiting the Executive, a 28th could achieve by eliminating the scourge of career politicians from the Legislative, and by returning the interpretation of "Original Intent" back to the Judiciary. It's time. There is a solution as big as the problem… http://www.ConventionOfStates.com

I fully support this effort. Term limits would also give more far people a chance to participate in their own government and create a more dynamic government focused on problem-solving rather than career enhancement.

Get the headstrong idiots out
