Climate Solutions Caucus Continues to Grow

May 18, 2018 - 8:00am

The Climate Solutions Caucus--which is led by two South Florida congressmen--continues to expand with five new members this week.

Founded by U.S. Reps. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., and Ted Deutch, D-Fla., at the start of 2016, the Climate Solutions Caucus defines it mission as “to educate members on economically-viable options to reduce climate risk and to explore bipartisan policy options that address the impacts, causes, and challenges of our changing climate.

Curbelo and Deutch announced five new members this week as U.S. Reps. Eliot Engel, D-NY, Ron Kind, D-Wisc., Tom MacArthur, R-NJ, Erik Paulsen, R-Minn., and Peter Roskam, R-Ill., joined bringing the caucus to 78 members.

“Now 78 members strong, the Climate Solutions Caucus is evidence that there is a growing, diverse, and bipartisan coalition of members of Congress ready to put politics aside and find meaningful solutions to the challenges posed by sea level rise and climate change,” Curbelo said on Thursday. “We have a responsibility to our constituents and future generations to present a united front to combat anti-climate policies and to have a productive, fact-based dialogue about market-oriented solutions, investments, and innovations that could mitigate the effects of climate change and make our nation more resilient. I’m grateful these new Members are willing to step up and turn their concern into action by joining and welcome their valuable input. This growing coalition will be critical to ensuring Congress makes finding solutions to this issue a priority.”

“Last year, intense weather systems devastated communities across our country, from Puerto Rico to California,” Deutch said. “More and more Americans are suffering from worsening weather patterns as a result of climate change. The growth in size and regional diversity of this caucus is a reflection of the broad consensus among Americans that climate change is an urgent issue that demands action by Congress. As we gear up for hurricane season, I welcome this bipartisan support from my colleagues for the Caucus’ efforts to address the growing threats of climate change.”

Besides the two founders, there are five other members of the Florida delegation in the caucus:  Republican U.S. Reps. Matt Gaetz, Brian Mast and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Democrats U.S. Reps. Charlie Crist and Stephanie Murphy.

You believe climate change is a hoax? Do a first grade science experiment. Look at Alaska or Antarctica glaciers and polar caps before and after photos from just 20 years ago. While your at it, look at the sea levels during the same time frames. Even the fake news idiots and the Trump the Chump groupies can do this one, but probably not better than their first grader...

There was a time when most people thought the world was flat. Today's version of those folks are the unknowing schills of the oil industry. I've lived in Florida for over 60 years. Summers are hotter, winters in So. Fla. are more abbreviated. Even if human activity were not the prime cause, there is no doubt it contributes heavily. The politicians of Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana where the oil comes from lead the deniers. Why else would Dirty Rick go to Texas to raise money?

As for Curbelo, when you are a Democrat, but have to run as a Republican, you have no shame in participating in huge lies. As for Gaetz, this is disappointing...bet then, maybe he is there spying. Gaetz has been solid on the Deep State treason. Brian Mast alreadu betrayed his oath, no surprises there for him of Ros-Lehtinen who went over to the dark side a long time ago, too many years in the swamp.

Is this group together to end the seasons? Because we all know that man made global climate warming change is a hoax to increase the control by government over our lives.

Since non polluting renewable energy costs less now, just why are we still using FFs?................ Who really wants to pay more for polluting power?.......... Who wants worse performance in cars while paying more for polluting fuels?...............Few things are more fiscally and morally conservative as making your own clean power for much less, No?..............Fact is most republican leaders especially are corporate welfare shills making us pay more to poison ourselves to line their, their FF paymasters pockets while screwing the people. Way to go!!............ I make and store my own solar power at a fraction of poisoning FF power cost/kwh........... And I've been driving my lightweight EVs for 25 yrs now, again at a fraction of an ICE version............I've been replacing diesel generators for 45 yrs now with wind and tidal, again a 10% of the diesel generator, it's fuel, etc cost............Do YOU want to pay more for polluting power?........... The US subsidizes the FF industry with $600B/yr in YOU income taxes YOU pay 20% high tax rate to pay for FF pollution, healthcare, insurance, military, etc costs........... You like doing that?............And this is before GHG/CC effects that has in the last 50 yrs taken 5k sq miles of Florida under salt water......... Much of which I personally have seen living next to and on the water over that time.

You are spending way too much time readinf climate hoax talking points to be able to be in the business of replacing Diesel and as for Tidal, name some of your installs of that technology.

They were never less expensive, just subsidized by taxpayers and zero interest rates, just a another scam fomented on us by liberals and people clueless about science and finance: Search "renewables-sector-upbeat-despite-financial-warnings"

What a disappointment to see Matt Gaetz in this made up science 'caucus'.

Didn't these so called leaders get the message climate change, Global Warming. is a HOAX!!

the Arctic melting and Olympics using man made snow for almost all of their races is not a hoax. If you have kids or grand kids...ask them how they feel about climate change. respectful conversations on solutions is needed here....thanks for listening.
