This week, U.S. Rep. Stephanie Murphy, D-Fla., paired up with a familiar legislative partner on the other side of the aisle to bring out a bill to help veterans move into the workforce.

Murphy and U.S. Rep. Steve Knight, R-Calif., unveiled the “Encouraging Veterans Employment Act” which makes the U.S. Defense Department “give preference to businesses that employ veterans when awarding contracts.”

“Military servicemembers risk their lives to keep our nation safe and have earned the opportunity to succeed once they decide to transition into the civilian workforce,” said Murphy. “The men and women of our military learn valuable skills and develop unique leadership qualities that make them an asset to employers—who may be unfamiliar with the value of hiring veterans. I’m proud to partner with Congressman Knight to introduce this bipartisan bill to encourage business owners to seek out and hire veterans.”

"Our veterans offer unique skills and experiences that their civilian counterparts don't. They often excel in team environments, leadership skills, and perseverance through adversity," said Knight. "However, statistics show that veterans still disproportionately struggle with unemployment. By creating more incentives for contractors to hire veterans, we can ensure these valuable skills and insights are brought to our workforce, while also creating more avenues for our nation's heroes to establish successful civilian careers."

While she is a congressional freshman, Murphy has found a key ally in Knight. They both serve on the U.S. House Armed Services Committee and Small Business Committee (SBC). Knight chairs the U.S. House Contracting and Workforce Subcommittee where Murphy leads Democrats.

Back in October, the “Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer Improvements Act of 2017” which Knight and Murphy teamed up on passed without opposition. In March 2017, Knight and Murphy paired up with with U.S. Rep. Dave Brat, R-Va., to unveil a proposal amending the Small Business Act to give “clear job description to Commercial Marketing Representatives at the Small Business Administration and help small businesses better compete for subcontracts.”

"..While she IS a Congressional freshman.."..; Murphy seems constantly (and unerringly), to "be on the hunt" for ANY "media ink" that might (in some small self-serving way) "showcase" her very existence & 'attendance' while stalking the "Halls of Congress" hunting for other neophyte "congressionalists" to "pair up" with on the "freshman legislative learning experience".... (even IF the bulk of her proposals "never see the light of day" after they initially traverse the "printed media pages"). Oh well,.. that whole empty "process" might well 'give life' to a second term for Stephanie,... and isn't THAT (after all) the exact purpose of her "hunt"?!?
