Floridians Feeling Good About State's Economy, Quality of Life

February 8, 2018 - 6:00pm

Floridians are feeling good about where the Sunshine State is headed, a new poll finds.

Mason Dixon released a new survey on Friday morning showing 60 percent of Floridians think the state is headed on the right track while only 21 percent think it’s headed on the wrong track while 19 percent are not sure. The poll finds solid majorities of all political persuasions, races, ages, genders and parts of the state think Florida is headed on the right track.

Most Floridians think the state’s economy is in good shape with a clear majority--59 percent--thinking it’s excellent or good. More than a quarter of those surveyed--29 percent--think the economy in Florida is fair while only 9 percent think it’s poor while 3 percent are not sure. Again, a majority of all groups included in the poll were bullish on the state’s economy though whites, Republicans, men and residents of the southeastern and southwest parts of the state were higher on it.

Floridians also think the good times will continue with more than half of those surveyed--52 percent--thinking the economy will be better in two years while 31 percent think it will be the same and 9 percent say it will be worse.

An overwhelming majority of those surveyed--79 percent--think the quality of life in the Sunshine State is excellent or good while 16 percent think it’s fair and only 3 percent say it’s poor.

Asked what they consider to be the biggest threat to Florida’s quality of life, 31 percent say development and overpopulation while 18 percent point to environmental problems, 16 percent think it’s crime and drugs, 13 percent say health-care, 12 percent point to roads and infrastructure problems and 5 percent cite economic woes.

The poll of 625 registered Florida voters was taken from Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

What's NOT to "feel good" about ?!?!? GO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP !!!!!!!!!! ( I might even consider changing my voter registration from Democrat to Republican...)

The only thing that saves Florida, every year, is the tourism invasion. Without that, there's not much here for us Floridians to earn a living on. Not enough major corporate headquarters in the state, and not enough in the smaller cities, like Sarasota, Ft. Myers and the Panhandle. Floridians are living paycheck to paycheck, because of the ridiculous low wages everywhere. Including government jobs. When FHP and Sheriff deputies have to go on food stamps to feed their families, something is wrong. I love this state, but all it'll take is a year with 2 or 3 hurricanes plowing through, to decimate it for the next 5 - 10 years. No major industry.

You sound like you know this Right to Work for Less and No Rights state. And don't for forget our teachers living hand to mouth on some of the lowest wages in the nation..

If it weren't for the fact that the quality of education is still lacking in Florida, AND lazy incompetent teachers are responsible for that......I might even begrudgingly agree with you... BUT, it IS the fault of the large percentage of lazy teachers who are "OUT AT THE BELL" even before the kids !

They should enjoy what was Obama's economy and now Trump's, republican economy is just starting to take effect. .... Now Trump's tax cut just when the economy was doing great, they stimulated by borrowing now we are heading to high interedt rates, inflation, recession just as people started getting raises, kills the economy. .....just like 2001 all over again and you know how that turned out in 2008.

Are you telling a joke? Real wages are below where they were in 1970. 60% of Americans cannot afford a thousand dollar emergency, 45 million Americans live below the poverty line, half of all families have zero savings for retirement, (and the Repugnant termites, and the feckless corporate Dems will go along, are already talking about cutting "entitlements").

I've been working in the economy since 66 and dems are far ahead of republicans on economic results by a long way. ............Just look at the charts and rather clear. ........ republicans cut taxes to drive the country bankrupt so it can't stop them, corporations from screwing people in so many ways. ..... Then dems come in and recover the economy by being adults. Been that way 5 presidents now.......In 2020 dems again will clean up their mess.
