Ted Yoho, Adam Smith Call on Trump Administration Work With Congress on Reforming Foreign Aid

From his perch on the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee and as chairman of the U.S House Asia and the Pacific Subcommittee, U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., continued his push for transparency as the Trump administration looks to reform the State Department and foreign aid.

On Tuesday, Yoho once again paired up with U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., to urge federal Office of Management and Budget Director Mick Mulvaney to support an open dialogue and transparency as the Trump administration looks at making changes to the State Department and the  U.S. Agency for International Development:

Yoho and Smith, who co-chair the Congressional Caucus for Effective Foreign Assistance,  rounded up more than 65 members of Congress to sign a letter to Mulvaney on the issue.

“Strong bipartisan congressional support for foreign assistance programs is a key element of the United States’ global leadership,” they wrote. “ Over the last 15 years, Congress has worked with Republican and Democratic administrations to improve U.S. foreign assistance with powerful results, such as the Global Food Security Act and the Foreign Assistance Transparency and Accountability Act. Given Congress’ role as the sole body in the authorizing and budgetary processes, we believe that any effort to enact reforms without a strong partnership between Congress and the Administration will not be sustainable.”

Yoho applauded the idea of reforming foreign aid but said the Trump administration‘s efforts will be more effective if it works with Congress.

“In these financially restrictive times, as the United States re-evaluates our foreign assistance programs Congress must remain involved and work with the administration to create the most efficient and effective programs possible,” Yoho said on Tuesday. “By doing so, we can lay out specific goals to transition countries from aid to trade as rapidly as possible for maximum effect.”

“Any redesign of U.S. foreign assistance programs must be done in a transparent manner and in consultation with the development community and with Congress,” Smith insisted. “Public engagement during this critical juncture is necessary in order to improve the overall effectiveness of foreign assistance and bring further stability to the world.”

From the Florida delegation, Republican U.S. Reps. Dennis Ross and Democrats U.S. Reps. Ted Deutch, Lois Frankel, Stephanie Murphy and Debbie Wasserman Schultz signed the letter. A number of groups including Action Against Hunger, Save the Children, World Vision, Malaria No More, Fund for Global Health, Heartland Alliance, Global Citizen, the Hunger Project, Lutheran World Relief, American Heart Association, American Stroke Association, Catholic Relief Services, Refugees International and the ONE Campaign are backing Yoho’s and Smith’ efforts.

Back in September, Yoho and Smith penned a piece calling for the Trump administration to embrace transparency and work with Congress on reforming foreign aid that was published in The Hill.

Here is another capital idea guaranteed to make the Demorats go back outside and howl at the moon some more. It will also virtually ELIMINATE voter fraud. In order to vote you need to file a federal tax return. Not necessarily pay taxes - lots of middle income folks don't- just file. We have the House, Senate and Prez. Is there anything up there those clowns- exempting our Fearless Leader- can actually do? Can you hear the Demorats screeching and wailing? Be worth cooking a bunch of popcorn and drink beer and watch them melt down. And it WOULD end voter fraud. The Founding Fathers never intended for nit wits and the mentally challenged to vote.

The "Founding Fathers" never intended "mentally challenged nitwits" to fill Congressional "seats" either ! (Matter of fact, they never intended the 19th Amendment either, and would be dismayed to see what THAT 1920 Amendment has wrought upon this Republic ! )

Since I am getting tired of the Roy Moore story - once Gloria is involved you know its about the money- and besides which I think Roy would be great in the Senate - and I am against giving money to ANY foreign nation except Israel - I think we should just ask them how much they need and send a check - I am now looking for new entertainment. Saw the screeching harridan Maxine Waters on, you guessed it, NBC this morning. What an incoherent pill. But then, she is a Demorat. I am waiting anxiously for California to secede! Since most all men in southern CA are queer, bi, trans or undecided and the rest are wiling to get on their knees for a movie part I think our invasion will steamroll thru that part of the state. The men in northern CA will volunteer to fight with us. Oh, northern CA won't be a problem. Under martial law we can immediately hang Moonbeam and all the traitors to the Union who sided with him. Establish a temporary government and restore order. Now THAT would be some great sport and good entertainment!

I agree ! As for the Roy Moore story: These "Jenny come lately" whiners (in Alabama, In Hollywood, in Congress) are just "playing the old game" of "sue & settle" or, as we used to call it back in the day when they complained that the "glass ceiling was too high" for their "ill prepared selves"... the "ten thousand dollar settlement lottery" (Second only to the old "hit your brakes in slow moving traffic" scam ). As to California,... the "solution" is the same as for Florida: SPLIT it into TWO States; Liberal Democrat SOUTH "Hispaniola sanctuary" FLORIDA and Liberal Democrat SOUTH "Mexicali sanctuary" CALIFORNIA..... and the other "halves" remaining as "self sustaining" Florida and California !

"Foreign Aid" to WHO?....CALIFORNIA?!?!? (Just CONTINUE to "let THOSE FOREIGNERS eat cake"!!!!!!!!!!!

It takes some nerve for anyone in Congress to call on this Administration to work with them when we clearly see complete failure by Congress to get even ONE of their campaign promises accomplished on behalf of the middle class... No thanks... Let Trump do it without that bunch of do-nothngs.
