A year until the primaries, with Gov. Rick Scott facing term limits next year, Florida Republicans and Democrats are not sure who they want to replace him in Tallahassee, a new poll shows.

Florida Atlantic University’s (FAU) Business and Economics Polling Initiative (BEPI) unveiled the poll on Tuesday which shows around half of Republicans and Democrats in the Sunshine State remain undecided.

More than half of Florida Republicans--53 percent--are still on the fence but Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam has a clear lead among those who have made up their minds already. Putnam takes 27 percent of Florida Republicans while Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran, R-Lutz, who is still deciding on whether to enter the race, pulls 10 percent. U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., who is also considering entering the race, takes 9 percent. State Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, who entered the race earlier this month, trails with only 2 percent.

The poll shows Democrats are also divided on who they want on the ticket in 2018 with 47 percent of them undecided. Attorney John Morgan, who is mulling over running for governor, takes 19 percent of Florida Democrats. Former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham, D-Fla., who is an active candidate, claims 14 percent followed by Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum, who is also in the race, with 9 percent. Possible candidate Miami Beach Mayor Philip Levine gets 8 percent while Orlando businessman Chris King, an active candidate, lags with 4 percent.

Kevin Wagner, an associate professor of political science at FAU, said to keep an eye on Morgan and other candidates without political experience.

“Donald Trump's success has encouraged nontraditional candidates to consider running for office, and our results suggest that well-known attorney John Morgan may have an opportunity in the Democratic gubernatorial race,” Wagner said. “But, it is very early with many undecided voters.”

The poll of 800 registered voters in Florida was taken from Aug. 24 through Aug. 26 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

And Putnam has never had a private sector, real job!

John Morgan, are you kidding me? He is nothing but an ambulance chasing, no good hypocrite only intent on making obscene profits off of clients' misfortunes. He is a disgrace to the legal profession!

I certainly hope John is in it! I have waited a long time to see him on the ballot! He is just what this state and this country needs!

Undecided is GOOD at this point in time. There is time for people to watch the politicians and then vote next year.

Mr. Morgan has statewide name recognition, and has always positioned himself as a defender of "the people". That trumps a reality TV personality who fired people. Morgan is behaving like a candidate, and I hope he declairs as one. I would wholeheartedly support him as a candidate for Governor. It's time for honest change.

Morgan FOR the People !

Those are good candidates if you want Tally to be a laundromat. I'm with Bob White for Governor, the only real Republican in the race.

It's going to be "Opie" Putnam Folks (if you want to keep Florida TRULY "Floridian" for very much longer), If you can't (or won't) see the merit in THAT, then your ONLY remaining choice is "Jacksonville raised" DeSantis. But if you're REALLY OFF YOUR "MEDS" your choices are lesser pettifoggers like Corcoran, latvala, Gillum, Levine, the "nepotistic Gwennie" Graham (who QUIT the panhandle for more opportunistic "government mammary sites" to potentially adhere to), or "Chris who?"... Then again, IF you DON'T have access to "meds" at all (or any hope for a prescription renewal), Morgan will probably "smoke" you (I suspect that's and "old legal term"..)

you would know about being on the Gov't mammary better than anyone. Go back to NY and get a job loser...

First, Scott does NOT support Billary, but he does support himself and his own bank accounts. Congress would be in trouble with either Scott or with the return of Nelson, who's too old to pick up the pace and actually fight for what is right! Right now, Putnam is looking very good.

Putnam is not an option if he takes any campaign funding from any group that has any connections with Big Sugar. South Florida voters would definitely not vote for him.

Just don't want to see another Republican in the Gov. seat. Scott didn't win by that much and he hasn't really done that much for Florida. Since so many people have moved to FL from the North, the Republicans are strong in the amount of voters.

While none of them are perfect. Hillary would have been the better choice over Trump. I would give Mr. Morgan a chance.

I like him and I like what he has done for medical cannabis a lot! However, I just CANNOT get past his support of that criminal, crooked Billary.

I agree. I like John Morgan but the fact he supported HRC makes me doubt his intentions because she was never for the people and disrespects our constitution and democracy. Hillary is a criminal who has committed multiple felonies and yet no justice has been served. Whether you believe it or not The body count that surrounds her is disturbing in itself and anyone who has investigated or was going to testify against her has mysteriously come up dead. Backing a criminal who does not care about America is unsettling.
