Carlos Curbelo's Reform for DREAMers Will Boost Economy, Report Shows

This week, a libertarian think tank released a report showing an immigration reform proposal from a Florida congressman would lead to a major boost to the economy.

On Thursday,  the Niskanen Center unveiled a report showing U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo’s, R-Fla., “Recognizing America’s Children (RAC) Act” would create 115,000 jobs and add almost $80 billion to the gross domestic product (GDP) over the next decade.

Curbelo’s proposal would reform the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program giving younger illegal immigrants, often called DREAMers--those who entered the country before 2012 and who were 16 or younger when they entered--a path to citizenship.

“The RAC Act provides immigrants that have been vetted by the Department of Homeland Security with three pathways toward legalization: higher education, service in the armed forces, or work authorization,” Curbelo’s office noted. “Following a 5-year conditional status, these immigrants would be able to reapply for a 5-year permanent status.”

Back in March, Curbelo brought out the the RAC Act with the support of fellow South Florida Republicans U.S. Reps. Mario Diaz-Balart and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. Curbelo has rounded up more than 15 other co-sponsors, all Republicans, and the bill has been sent to the House Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security, the House Homeland Security Committee’s Subcommittee on Border and Maritime and its Subcommittee on Counterterrorism and Intelligence and the House Armed Services Committee.

On Thursday, Curbelo showcased the report and its support for his proposal.

“This report confirms what we already know: immigrants have an enormous impact on our economy and job creation, especially here in South Florida,” Curbelo said. “While I’ve been hopeful the administration has signaled a willingness to do the right thing by these DREAMers, Congress must take action to provide a fair and permanent solution. These young people are contributing to our communities and our economy, and they should not have to live in constant fear. My legislation would give peace of mind to hundreds of thousands across the country and grow our economy and create new jobs.

“I urge all my colleagues who want to help these young people and advance responsible immigration policy to join us and co-sponsor the RAC Act,” Curbelo added. “I urge all Americans who have it in their hearts to do something for these young people to call your representatives and tell them we need to act together and now.”

Polls are completely without merit and anyone who soundly believes them is fool enough. The results are what the so-called sponsor wants them to be, or the poll 'boss' wants them to be, no matter, polls are run by what I believe are criminal minded organizations in order to gain positive results, thus, making more money.

Everyone wants to complicate a very simple issue. There is a legal way to enter the U.S.. If immigration is not done in that way then it was done in an illegal way and should not be rewarded. There is nothing else to be said, these people are in our country illegally and need to be removed. If they want to come back do it the legal way.

The article is baloney. End the unconstitutional DACA! There was lots of fraud in DACA and many of the illegal aliens have been arrested. Looks like DACA may be terminated as a result of the multiple states lawsuit. Can't happen soon enough! And we won't forget that Carlos Curbelo refuses to support immigration enforcement.

Ahhh, our Congressional "Cuban Delegation" SPEAKS ! Their "mindset" consistently brings us to the idea of dividing Florida into TWO States: 1.) "Florida" (from Georgia south to Tampa)... and ... 2.) "Puerta a las Riquezas" (from Tampa south to Key West); It's well past time for politicians to stop treating their Floridian constituents like "mushrooms"...

Polls are not news. Polls cannot be trusted. Polls are campaign tools to artificially promote bad candidates and bad ideas. This is one of those poll to reject, because it is promoting a "Government Subsidy." The evidence of governmental subsidies are overwhelming that they only achieve two things, either raise costs or decrease efficiency. Neither outcome is beneficial to the society as a whole. Liberals love polls because their ideas suck! The reason not to trust polls is they are easily manipulated to achiever the desired outcome by the the person or entity paying for the poll, and that includes all Media Polls.
