NRSC Takes Aim at Bill Nelson in New Ad

Even as U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., tries to assemble enough votes from the Republican majority in the Senate to pass a measure repealing and replacing former President Barack Obama’s health-care law, the National Republican Senate Committee (NRSC) took aim at U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., with a new ad on the issue.

The NRSC launched a digital ad running on Facebook aimed towards Florida residents. The ad is expected to run for the rest of the month. The ad shows a number of Democrats--most of whom are top GOP targets in 2018--praising the law, including a clip of Nelson insisting it will “reduce Floridians’ policy premiums”

"As Democrats continue to grandstand without offering solutions, Bill Nelson’s broken promises are fresh on Floridians’ minds,” said Katie Martin, a spokesman for the NRSC, on Monday. “Bill Nelson should be held accountable for being dishonest with voters and being complacent in Obamacare’s death spiral.”

Nelson is expected to run for a fourth term in 2018 and Gov. Rick Scott has opened the door to running against him on the Republican line. On Sunday night, Nelson sent out an email looking to get ahead of the new ad.

“Mitch McConnell's national group just started running brand-new ads against me here in Florida,” Nelson wrote. It’s clear these right-wing groups are more determined than ever to try to replace me with a rubber stamp for their extreme agenda. That’s because instead of having to deal with someone like me – who will continue to fight to keep oil rigs away from our coast, slow the effects of climate change and prevent the passage of this disastrous health-care bill – they’d rather have someone like Gov. Rick Scott, who will quietly go along with their plan.”

Nelson looked to tie Scott to President Donald Trump in the email, insisting “President Trump has already recruited Scott to run against me, and that’s why Scott is now leading a new super PAC to fuel his campaign.” Nelson added “this is going to be one of the most competitive Senate races in the country" and “the other side is clearly going all in.”

Term limits. You want it fixed? Trump should write an executive order that ALL government employees (IRS, EPA, FBI, CIA, etc.), along with the House & Senate must be on Obamacare and no subsidies if their salaries do not warrant it -- that includes staffers.

Cracks me up that Senator Nelson labels our President's agenda as "extremist". Wow. How far out of touch are the Dems really? It is a shame that not one Democratic politician is willing to step up to fight against their party being taken over by raving Socialist and Anarchist zealots. The fact is that Democrats are not the only "Swamp dwellers". Those old, entrenched, trough-feeding Republicans who are fighting our President's agenda are just as culpable. When are these politicians going to actually do something for the tax paying public? The self-interest being exhibited in Washington is embarrassing, mainly because most of them do not have a clue how lame they looks to us out here who are paying their salaries. Governor Scott "gets it" and will make a very effective Senator representing the interests of Florida.

Governor Scott is and continues to be incredibly unpopular in our state. He barely won the election both times even with his personal millions of investment. No surprise both he and Bondi fit right in with Trumps agenda. Nelson is solid and looking out for the state of Florida not lining his pockets at our expense.

Russia, Russia, Russia, that is all I am hearing from every Democrat including Sen. Nelson. Isn't it time Sen. Nelson got back to work doing what WE are paying him for? He should be working on Health Care, Tax Reform, JOBS not Russia, Russia, Russia. SEN.NELSON GET BACK TO WORK AN DO WHAT WE ARE PAYING YOU FOR.

Obviously, political parties colluding with hostile foreign governments to derail our elections doesn't bother you. So American!

Kathy -- Are you referring to the Clinton's & Russia (uranium sale, $145K in donations and a $500K speech)? Or maybe Hillary & Ukraine (campaign meetings at their embassy)? What about the Clinton's & China (the FBI is looking at that one)? Maybe Libya? Syria? Iran? What? CNN, MSNBC, NYT, etc., aren't telling you about these? Maybe you should do a little googling and get informed so you don't make yourself look like a fool.

ADIOS to the "Ride-along-rocketeer", "Zippy Nelson"; ("Don't touch ANY buttons or switches 'Senator Zippy' !!!!")

Time to Repeal Obama care. Not replace, instead give the People back their healthcare the democrats stole from us. Look at unaffordable Obamacare today! If anything needs to be done with Healthcare insurance is to charge those that receive Medicaid just like they charge you for medicare. Time for Bill Nelson to let it go, he has had the privileged to serve as a U.S. Senator for 18 years....Time to retire and allow another American Citizen the privilege to serve as a U.S. Senator.

Like Scott? Someone who will go along with all of Trump' s agenda to undermine Americans?

Who are you people REALLY? You certainly don't represent your average middle class working family. Thank God Nelson has the guts to stand up against the ridiculous proposals of the current administration.

Thanks for your input "Anonymous". Think most of us have seen enough of what happens when we "believe" anything coming from today's verion of Lincoln's GOP.

Sorry fool but am Registered Independent and don't believe the government should be in charge of our healthcare system. If you want Healthcare insurance you purchase Healthcare insurance on your own or through your employer or you pay cash.

This "fool" is a registered Republican, "Anonymous". But I think for myself.

Here comes the negative campaigning to try to force their bad insurance bill through...

Bill Nelson has done nothing for Florida and should have been gone long ago.

YOU HIT THE NAIL RIGHT ON THE HEAD. IF HE IS AS GOOD AS HE THINKS HE IS HE SHOULD GO BACK TO WORK DOING WHAT WE ARE PAYING HIM FOR.

give me some examples of what this legislature has done for FL in the last 10 years fool...
