Trump Plans Return to Florida for Melbourne Campaign Rally

February 16, 2017 - 8:00am

It’s only been four weeks since President Donald Trump took his seat in the Oval Office, but that doesn’t mean he’s left campaigning behind. Seeking to regain the momentum which sent him to the White House, President Donald Trump will hold a campaign rally in Melbourne on Saturday.

The rally will be held at an airplane hangar at the Orlando-Melbourne International Airport and is the first rally Trump has organized since his inauguration last month.

Trump made the announcement Wednesday on Twitter, inviting his 25 million followers to tag along and attend the event.

“We are going to put America back to work,” Trump wrote. “We are going to put people before government.”

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Trump’s campaign team was organizing the event, not the White House. Trump sent a letter to the Federal Election Commission for re-election in 2020 the day he took office, but has not made any official announcements about his intentions to run for the presidency once more.

The president has spent the last two weekends in Palm Beach at his Mar-a-Lago resort, where he has played golf and hosted Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. This weekend will be the third in a row that Trump has come down to warm his toes beneath the palm trees.

The rally comes after a rough week for the new president as well as a chaotic administration full of leaks and resignations from some of the country’s top government jobs. Trump has also been accused of colluding with Russia while on the campaign trail, but the validity of those claims is still unclear. The FBI is currently investigating Trump’s campaign circle for Russian ties.

Few details about the rally were available, but the event is likely to be a raucous gathering of supporters, who turned out in the thousands to support his candidacy on the campaign trail. Protesters are also likely since they have ramped up their efforts to oppose Trump's presidency since he was elected in an historic upset in November.

Trump turned Florida and the nation into a sea of red on Election Day. He won the Sunshine State narrowly over Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton, besting her by 1.2 percent of the vote.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.

Once again, fringe left Nielsen with her commie spin on President Trump. He has been doing the work of Americans since day one. Go write for Salon, Nielsen.

Would like to see Millions there and around the Airport..... Millions of Supporters to show that we are not going to take this crap from the left any more. Either the left helps or they need to get out the way of others that do want to make America Great!

Interesting. I thought we need to turn out in the thousands to tell the President that we are not going to allow his family regime to be controlled by the white supremacists managing him.

Allison, do you think you could just one time write a column about Trump which did not have negative overtones? Your bias against Trump is so very obvious. A good journalist, or should I say a PROFESSIONAL journalist would be able to write without displaying prejudice. Go Trump! He's doing am awesome job. And I love the fact that he's holding rallies to stay touch with "we the people".

How about doing something besides pep rallies. The executive order that was signed was overturned, and he hasn't really done anything else in the first 100 days, except go back home and play golf. It's time to step up and get to work Mr. President...classic.

We should encourage President Trump to close down his operation at Mar-a-Largo Florida to the public and move & work there until all the leaks stop in D.C. for the good of the country. Plenty of rooms for his Secret Service and associates and great golf too. Why stay in D.C. when Mar-a-Largo is nicer.

I'm guessing you're either a Trump family member, or an employee of the Trump Organization. You do realize he is charging the taxpayer every time he travels to Mar A Largo? His staff is not being housed and fed there for free. You are paying for it. In typical Trump style, he helps himself first.

Where can we send the check..... At least we like President Trump........ Not the other one!

Ypu obviously have no idea what is going on in Washington. Trump has done more to serve "we the people" in less than a month tham Obama did in 8 years.
