Was Gov. Scott wise to veto SB 668, the family law reform bill?

Comments

Governor Scott did the right thing.

By who may I ask? The answer to that question lies in who benefits? In shared parenting, children benefit as multiple studies have shown. So the children lose. With regard to Alimony, the payor cannot ever retire, they are literally an indentured servant until death. Society does NOT win here, we are set back by more politicians. The people spoke and the OVERWHELMING majority wanted this Bill.

Governor Scott did the right thing.

This bill was corrupt politics 101. There wasn't one valid fact or study to support.

Equality between mothers and fathers isn't a valid fact?

Shows how much technologically savy you are. No wonder you can't find a job if you can't do simple research. There are several known faxts in government websites showing the aspect of both parents being involved.

Alimony. Well damn...you failed in finding research in the Internet. I guess you must have failed Google. Just saying.

"Wise" is not a word that I associate with Governor Scott, but this was the correct decision at this time.

Governor Scott once again ignored the will of the people, the majority of their elected representatives, and seems to be in the pocket of the Florida Bar.

SB 668 should have pasted @

Your not of the people of Florida.

Talk about conflict of interest, with his daughter going through a divorce. Alimony reform is essential, unless you want to take women's rights away and go backwards and have slavery again. You are not responsible for grown kids. Why would you be responsible to financially support someone you don't have ties with anymore?

Equal/Shared parenting. As nature has it, it took two indents to make them. We don't have to be in a relationship to raise.

Not at all.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. I think if they actually verified the identity of people, and if they wetter actually fle Florida citizens the as actual number of supporters would decrease dramatically

I'm a US Navy veteran with 24 years of service that due to this divorce was almost left homeless. I lost my kids, home, properties, and my ex-wife committed adultery. I was paying approximately $ 3000.00 a month between Alimony, Child Support, Retroactive Alimony, her 50 percent of my military retirement, which she didn't served but she has entitlement, and the Survival Benefit Plan (SBP), among everything else. Please, don't ever say that you all have the best interest of the kids. The Governor and the Florida Bar Association are the biggest crooks when they use a system for money and votes at the cost of sacrificing good father's that work hard for their kids and end with nothing. If interested, my case number is 2007DR002433. Case heard in Escambia County, Pensacola, Florida.

Caring for a vet in even worse straits. I hope you find some help & relief.

A child needs both parents. It's been proven time and time again. Both parents should have equal rights to the child and if one parent is not a fit parent, it is up to the other parent to prove him/her unfit in a court room. This is the only time when a judge needs to be involved.

He vet because his daughter is going though a divorce. And his sister-in-law is a lifetime alimony recipient. Bravo

Governor Scott caved in to the wiffle-waffling Bar and the special interests of his own family who apparently can't take care of themselves either. Pathetic and scandalous are 2 words to describe Rick Scott.

Florida's laws are antiquated.

The volumes of support of SB668 superseded the one's who opposed the bill. Governer Scott showed his true colors and utilizes our child(ren) for profit. Nevertheless, it all boils down to hurting the child(ren) and not having the fundamental right to be and spend equal time with their fit parents. The one's who outcry being against the bill are only interested for their own selfish needs and not in the best interest of the child(ren).

Didn't listen to the people, it passed house and Senate and also had a 3 to 1 response by email and phone asking him to support the bill. He chose to ignore that and put his own interest above the people. Shame on him

We the people, Governor, we the people, you put aside for your own interests. We the people will be heard, Governor.

Rick Scott, you are a dumbass! You just endagered the lives of countless children.

Rick Scott, you are a dumbass! You just endagered the lives of countless children.

Conflicted interests

He's an idiot and glad he won't be our governor after this term. Because of his selfish decision and not supporting what us Floridians wanted his attempt to run for another government position is doomed. Good luck moron.

I hope your scandalous testimony against your healthcare company in which you walked away from your felony crimes becomes public. The woman in Starbucks was correct about you. If you cared about low income women you would've taken the State Medicaid. You answer to your greedy sister-in-law, your own pocket, your own political aspirations, and the ever-cozy Bar. Disgusting!

You voted against the people of the state. The people that elected you. You should be ashamed of yourself. People are suffering

No!

Pass the bill

Scott doesn't care about conservative family values. He cares about feeling the greedy Bar association and the entitlement minded.

His daughter is going through a divorce. His sister-in-law is a lifetime alimony recipient. Absolutely a conflict of interest. Let the people of Florida go, oh keymaster!

Bought out by big (corrupt) money. Complete failure & missed great opportunity to lead.

SB668 offered relief for thousands of people impoverished and bankrupted by anachronistic alimony laws, as well as providing a path to independence for both parties... as well as the ability to.move on woth tgeir wives witbout jeopardizing their new spouses personal income. It also provides for approximately equal time sharing for parents, advocated by the APA and over one hundred of the world's foremost experts on child development and psychology, placing the child's welfare first. Shame on Governor Scott.

I was divorced after a 22 year marriage. My choice. I gave my ex everything. I wanted out. I made sure when we were married at 18 that I would get an education as I remembered my mother widowed young and struggled to raise her children. Besides, who am I to ruin another man's life. My second husband died a few years ago. He had health issues all of his life preventing his purchase of life insurance. Needless to say, I lost my home, my credit, etc. Now tell me, I loved my husband. I am too young for SS. Who is going to fight for me to keep me in the lifestyle I was accustomed too? Exactly, nobody as there is no money to be made for the machine. So most of you alimony leeches get a job! You are not entitled to ruin anybody's life. Lifetime alimony is slavery!

This should have passed!

Rick Scott is a muli-millionaire. If he cares about his sister-in-law, why doesn't he take care of her instead of letting her leech off someone else until death. His daughter is going through a divorce too and will probably get lifetime alimony at a young age. You are encouraging women to be weak and dependent, which lowers their personal value and worth. You are no leader and certainly no man, you spineless troll.

I hope your wife leaves you for the pool boy and cleans you out. I hope she gets all of the assets and you toil until death keeping she and her new lover in their accustomed lifestyle while you eat convenience store burritos and mop floors at night to stay out of jail. You corrupt coward!

You went against the will of the people, the votes of the House and Senate, the desire of our state's children, the progression of female empowerment, and common sense. I hope the White House is cleared of scummy politicians in November, and you are soon to follow, out with the rest of them. You are a puppet of the BAR and a louse of a human being. Tricky Ricky the politician you are not a King, you are simply evil.

Stay single folks! Women don't want your love or your sex. They want your financial security.

It's obvious Scott is bought and paid for POS

Thank you for veto!###
