FDP Calls Scott's 21 Capital-Case Reassignment 'Political Retribution'

Late in the day the Florida Democratic Party responded Monday to what it calls Gov. Rick Scott's "posturing," his announcement that he has reassigned 21 capital murder cases in Florida's 9th Judicial Circuit -- effectively removing State Attorney Aramis Ayala from applying her decision not to seek the death penalty at least while Scott remains governor.

West Palm Beach Attorney Michelle Suskauer Elected Florida Bar President

West Palm Beach attorney Michelle Suskauer has been chosen as president-elect designate of The Florida Bar.
 
Suskauer will be sworn in as president-elect at the Bar's annual convention in Boca Raton June 23, when current President-elect Michael J. Higer of Miami becomes president. Suskauer will begin her term as Bar president in June 2018.

Meanwhile, the Hillary Clinton Email Case Is Still Alive and Well in Federal Court

Judicial Watch announced Thursday a hearing has been set for Tuesday, March 7 on Judicial Watch’s Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit seeking former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s emails sent or received during her tenure from February 2009 to January 31, 2013. The FOIA request also includes all emails by other State Department employees to Clinton regarding her non-‘state.gov’ email address (Judicial Watch, Inc. v. U.S. Department of State (No. 1:15-cv-00687)).  The case is before Judge James E. Boasberg.

The Florida LGBTA Democratic Caucus was celebrating Tuesday night the Jacksonville City Council's passage of a comprehensive Human Rights Ordinance. The HRO bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity and expression.
