Confidence in Social Security has Dwindled

According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, more than half of Americans are not confident they'll receive Social Security benefits within their lifetime.

There's also a huge generation gap between those who believe they'll receive Social Security benefits in their lifetime and those who believe they won't. Seniors are overwhelmingly sure they'll be able to reap the benefits of Social Security, with nearly 70 percent saying they're very confident or somewhat confident they will receive all the Social Security benefits promised to them in their lifetime.

Sick-Leave Bill Passes, but Not Without Backlash

Gov. Rick Scott signed a bill blocking local governments from enacting mandatory paid sick-time measures. Unions in both Miami-Dade and in Orange counties were seeking to require local governments to have private entities mandate sick-leave benefits for employees. Several large businesses argued the bill was necessary to avoid several local employment rules for companies.

Businesses hailed Gov. Scott's decision to pass the bill.

According to a new state poll released Thursday by Public Policy Polling, the majority of Floridians overwhelmingly support a bipartisan immigration bill. The poll showed a great deal of support for the Gang of Eight as well.

Florida Added 17,440 Private Sector Jobs in May, Says Report

Florida added 17,440 private sector jobs in May, according to the ADP Regional Employment Report released Wednesday by ADP, a leading provider of global human capital management solutions.

Florida had the second-highest number of jobs created in May, trailing Texas by only 1,410 jobs. The U.S. saw 135,000 jobs generated in May, according to the report.

Rep. Alan Williams Chosen As Chair of Florida Legislative Black Caucus

On Tuesday, members of the Florida Conference of Black State Legislators officially chose State Representative Alan Williams, D-Tallahassee, to be the Chair of the Florida Legislative Black Caucus. The Florida Legislative Black Caucus is an organization dedicated to focusing on issues and legislation that are important to the black community.


Williams has been the representative for the 8th District since 2008. The 8th District covers Gadsden County and parts of downtown Tallahassee in Leon County.
