In the Wake of Government Shutdown, Free Stuff for Furloughed Workers

The shutdown of the federal government has left some employees furloughed and unable to go to work, but even though they may not be able to go to their jobs, furloughed workers can still reap the benefits of their roles as government employees because several places across the country are offering freebies for them.

Several restaurants in the Washington, D.C., area are offering free burgers and drinks to furloughed workers, while others are offering a discount on checks. Other discounts include fitness classes, free cups of coffee and free cupcakes. Federal ID is required to capitalize on many of these freebies, but some have been extended to the public.
