"U" Football Coach Recruiter Should Take a Turn With This Edsall
Let the name dropping begin. As the University of Miami searches for a new head football coach, prospects are popping up from coast to coast.
While Athletic Director Kirby Hocutt would not divulge any names on his list Sunday, one deserves serious consideration: Randy Edsall.
The University of Connecticut coach will lead the Huskies to the Big East championship this year if they beat the University of South Florida on Saturday (something Randy Shannon could not do). Edsall also wins bowl games (which Shannon did not).
Edsall is more than a caretaker who coasts on prior institutional success. He brought the Huskies out of the wilderness of Division I-AA and into the big leagues just 10 years ago. If his team claims the Big East title this year, the up-and-coming Edsall will be a hot commodity on the coaching market.
For Canes fans longing for the good ol' days of Miami dominance of the Big East, it's no sure bet that the "U" could beat Edsall's Connecticut squad these days.
UM could do worse a lot worse than the 52-year-old Edsall. In any event, the Huskies-Bulls tilt in Tampa should be an interesting one on Saturday afternoon.
