Ted Yoho Honors 52nd Anniversary of MLK's 'I Have a Dream' Speech

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., honored the 52nd anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I Have a Dream” speech on Friday, offering his take on the historic speech.

“Dr. King's dream was to end racism in America so that all people could enjoy the rights granted to us by our creator and guaranteed to them by our nation's Constitution,” Yoho said. “These were challenging and remarkably brave words for a nation in the midst of the civil rights movement that inspired people of all races.  I was 8 years old in 1963 when that speech was made and those words still ring true today.

“We as a nation have seen and been through the ugliness of racism,” Yoho added. “We as a nation survived that ugliness and grew to be a stronger and better country because of it.  We must always stay vigilant in protecting the rights of all of our citizens regardless of race, color or creed.  This is not the time to allow our nation to slide backward in respect to race relationships.  All citizens have a duty and responsibility to treat their fellow human with respect and dignity because all citizens benefit from it and our nation becomes stronger and better for it.  Let's all work to make Dr. King's dream become reality.

“Thank you, Dr. King, for having the courage to stand up, to speak truth and for paying the ultimate price to make a better nation for all,” Yoho said in conclusion.
