
Session Extension on the Horizon, but Senate and House Reach Agreement

The 2018 legislative session will continue on past Friday and the normal 60 days -- for however long it will take to pass a new $87 billion budget. Lawmakers failed to beat the Tuesday deadline -- last day before a 72-hour cooling-off period was set to begin. The new fiscal year begins July 1.
Leaders in both chambers nevertheless reached agreement on the stickiest points, funding for hospitals and nursing homes. the budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1. The new budget also will include "record" funding for higher education and a $101.50 increase per student in what has grown to a $21 billion public school budget.
