See Price Gouging Post-Hurricane? Call AG's Hotline and Report It
The Attorney General’s Office issued a statement Thursday encouraging residents to call the office hotline if they believe businesses are illegally raising prices on necessary commodities post-Hermine.
During a declared state of emergency, as exists now in the Panhandle and the hurricane's path generally, storm-related price inc reases on essentials like water, lumber, and generators are illegal, as is gas gouging.
Attorney general spokesman Whitney Ray said anyone who suspects price gouging should let Bondi's office know right away.
"They should call our office immediately, and in the age of smartphones, they should snap pictures of the prices and let us know. The more information that we have, the better position we are in to be able to serve the public," Ray said.
The hotline number is 1-866-9-NO-SCAM.
