New Rasmussen Poll: Donald Trump Leads the 2012 Republican Pack
Rasmussen Reports released a poll on Thursday that found that businessman Donald Trump was leading the pack of possible Republican presidential candidates in 2012 looking to take on President Barack Obama.
Trump topped the poll with 19 percent followed by former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts with 17 percent. Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee came in third with 15 percent. Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin tied for fourth with 9 percent, with U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas right behind them with 8 percent. Former Gov. Tim Pawlenty of Minnesota placed seventh with 5 percent and Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana took eighth with 3 percent.
The poll of 1,000 likely Republican primary voters was conducted on April 26 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
Rasmussen plans to release polls on general election matchups on Friday, but unveiled one part of it -- Obama led Trump 49 percent to 34 percent.
