Mike Rounds Backs Mike Huckabee for President

U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, R-SD, announced on Tuesday he was backing former Gov. Mike Huckabee, R-Ark., for the Republican presidential nomination. Rounds, who served two terms as governor of South Dakota, becomes the second senator to back Huckabee, joining U.S. Sen. John Boozman, R-Ark.

"Gov. Mike Huckabee has the right combination of executive experience, electability and conservative convictions we need to take back the White House and take America from Hope to Higher Ground,” Rounds said in his endorsement. “Mike Huckabee and I became friends when we were both governors, and I watched him defeat the Clinton machine, cut taxes and welfare, balance the budget 10 years straight, and raise average family income 50 percent - despite facing the most Democrat legislature in the country. He'll make a great president for the same reasons he was a great governor - he knows how to lead and solve big problems."

"Sen. Mike Rounds is a dear friend and principled patriot, and I'm honored to have the endorsement of a leader who has done such a tremendous job fighting for common sense in South Dakota and across the country," Huckabee said. After his 2008 presidential bid, Huckabee moved to the Florida Panhandle.
