Marco Rubio, South Florida Reps. Rally Support for Israel
Headed by U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, a bipartisan collection of South Florida leaders gathered Sunday night in North Miami Beach to rally support for Israel.
Recent events provided a great reminder of the difference between Israel and its enemies, like Hamas, other violent Palestinian extremists, and their state sponsor -- the Iranian regime, U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen announced to the crowd of approximately 1,200 at the Michael-Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, according to the Miami Herald.
Others on hand included U.S. Reps. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, Frederica Wilson, D-Miami Gardens, and Joe Garcia, D-Miami.
Speaker after speaker pledged the support of the United States, heaped praise on Israel and celebrated its Iron Dome missile-defense system, the Herald stated.
The gathering was sponsored by the Greater Miami Jewish Federation marking the Gaza cease-fire and the turmoil in Egypt, the Herald stated.
A similar event planned in South Florida by the American Muslim Association of North America was postponed, the organization claiming the move was a sign of solidarity due to the cease-fire.
