Marco Rubio: Change IRS Forms to Allow Taxpayers Option of Paying Down National Debt
On Tuesday, Florida Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio joined with U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., to propose that taxpayers could designate 10 percent of their tax liability to pay down the national debt. The senators maintained that refunds would not be impacted. McCain has introduced similar proposals for the IRS to include this option in previous years.
At a time when too many of our congressional leaders are unwilling to deal with the debt crisis, and our president is absent from the debate, this will give individual Americans the chance to deal with it themselves, said Rubio. This is the type of innovative solution we need in Washington to empower taxpayers when too many politicians would rather focus on the next election than a $14 trillion debt spiraling out of control.
