Jose Oliva Named Chair of House Select Committee on Affordable Healthcare Access
On Wednesday, Florida House Speaker Steve Crisafulli, R-Merritt Island, named a new select committee to tackle health-care costs.
“Pursuant to House Rule 7.6, the Select Committee on Affordable Healthcare Access has been created effective August 26, 2015,” Crisafulli noted in a memo sent out to House members on Wednesday. “I am directing the Select Committee to explore policy options to reduce the cost of health-care for consumers and improve the transparency of health-care information, make recommendations for legislative action, and propose legislation to implement those recommendations. This Select Committee has the same authority, powers, and duties as a standing committee.”
Rep. Jose Oliva, R-Hialeah, who is scheduled to take over as House speaker after the 2018 elections will chair the new committee. Rep. Jason Brodeur, R-Sanford, will serve as the vice chair.
