John Patrick Julien Passes Away

Former state Rep. John Patrick Julien, who lost a close battle for a state House seat last year, passed away on Thursday. House Democratic Leader Perry Thurston, D-Fort Lauderdale, issued a statement praising Julien:

On behalf of the Florida House Democratic Caucus, I offer our sincerest sympathies on the passing of one of our most memorable colleagues, John Patrick Julien. We are deeply saddened and our thoughts and prayers are extended to his family and loved ones.

John served in the House of Representatives in the 2010-12 term and represented District 104 in Miami-Dade County. He was a passionate advocate for his constituents, a thoughtful legislator, and a strong leader.

Born in Haiti, John will be particularly remembered in Miami-Dade County and elsewhere for his advocacy for the Caribbean communities of South Florida. During his service in the Florida House of Representatives, John focused on tough issues, inspiring others to join him, and by his words, encouraged many to take action and get involved.

Today, we have lost a great friend and Florida has lost a true public servant.
