Joe Negron on Atwater:

Senate President Joe Negron, R-Stuart, wished Chief Financial Officer the best as he prepares to leave his post in the Florida Cabinet for a new job at Florida Atlantic University.

Negron released a statement Friday praising Atwater for his work in Florida politics, setting an example for other lawmakers as they navigated their way through Tallahassee.

"Jeff Atwater has been one of the leading fixtures in Florida government for the last 15 years," Negron said. "His tireless work ethic and consummate optimism are immediately evident to everyone he meets."

Negron and Atwater were elected to the same freshman class in the Florida House in 2000. The two both served as senators at the same time when Atwater was Senate President.

“Being from the same part of the state, with districts that bordered one another, I enjoyed the chance to work with Jeff on a number of issues to benefit our local communities," Negron recalled. "When I was elected to the Senate in 2009, we were in the middle of the recession and working to balance a budget, while dealing with a multi-billion dollar shortfall. I will always remember CFO Atwater’s strong and determined leadership during this extremely trying time. I know he will serve FAU with the same tenacity."

In closing, Negron said he hoped Atwater was successful in his new role as FAU's CFO.

“I look forward to working him during this upcoming session, and wish him well as he begins his next chapter," Negron said.
