Florida TaxWatch: Sunshine State Needs More Medical Residencies
Florida TaxWatch released a study on Thursday showing the Sunshine State should increase the number of medical residences.
“Quality medical care is important not only for Florida residents, but also for economic growth,” said Dominic Calabro, the president and CEO of Florida TaxWatch. “As the state’s population continues to boom, we must invest in programs to attract and retain physicians to oversee Floridians’ care.”
Calabro noted there will be a shortage of 7,000 physicians by 2025 and noted almost 30 percent of Florida’s current 43,000 doctors are 60 and older while only 10 percent are 35 and younger. The study, which can be read here, shows physicians lead to 500,000 jobs and $40 billion for Florida’s economy.
