Florida Strong Attacks Richard Corcoran in Email Sent to House Members

The "nonpartisan" Democratic-leaning group Florida Strong is at it again with its attacks on House Republicans over their refusal to expand Medicaid in Florida.

In an email sent to House members Thursday, the group attacks Speaker-designate Rep. Richard Corcoran, R-Land O'Lakes, for "falsely claiming" Florida cannot afford to close the health care gap.

"Rep. Richard Corcoran falsely claims in his political propaganda that Florida cannot afford to close the health care gap," read the email. "However, his assertion does not pass the smell test. States that have adopted similar plans are not only seeing the benefit of more insured citizens, but are also reporting net fiscal gains.

"The business community, members of both parties, and editorial boards across the state agree: it is beyond time for the Florida House of Representatives to break the gridlock and support the Senate's pragmatic, bipartisan proposal. The Senate’s fiscally responsible plan will spur economic activity, increase state and local revenue, and create jobs."

The email comes on the heels of the House taking up the Senate's FHIX plan to expand Medicaid in Florida and says expanding Medicaid will create thousands of jobs statewide and be an economic generator to the state.

As Sunshine State News previously reported, Florida Strong just hopped onto the Florida political scene in recent weeks. It's not clear who specifically is financing the operation, but the state records show the group is owned by Florida Watch Action, a Democratic-tilted group which attacked Gov. Rick Scott in 2011 and then went after former presidential candidate Mitt Romney in 2012.

Earlier this week, Florida Strong whacked House members via a YouTube ad for leaving their posts early during this year's regular legislative session, but the ad did not mention specifics as to why the House adjourned three days early.
