Connie Mack: Obama Administration Should Expel Ecuador's Ambassador

On Tuesday, the Ecuadorian government expelled American Ambassador Heather Hodges due to comments she made attacking police in that Latin American nation over corruption. Hodges comments were revealed as part of the mine of sensitive information released by Wikileaks.

In response, Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, the chairman of the House Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, called for the U.S. to follow suit and expel Luis Benigno Gallegos Chiriboga, Ecuadors ambassador in Washington. Mack linked the Ecuadorian government to Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez -- who is a favorite target of the Florida congressman.

"President Correa has long joined up with Hugo Chavez and a small group in Latin America which wishes to stake their success in the region by being against the U.S., said Mack. The Obama administration should not hesitate in showing Ecuadors ambassador the same 'persona non grata' treatment and show Ambassador Gallegos the door immediately.
