Chris Christie in Great Shape for Second Term

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey, who is mentioned as a possible Republican presidential candidate in 2016, is in excellent shape as he looks for a second term in November.

Rasmussen Reports released a poll on Friday which shows Christie with a commanding lead over Democratic opponent state Sen. Barbara Buono. Christie takes 58 percent of those surveyed while Buono only commands the support of 28 percent, while 10 percent are undecided and 4 percent back other candidates.

The poll of 1,000 likely New Jersey voters was taken from June 12-13 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

Christie is soaring high in national polls as well and generally ranks among the top Republican presidential possibilities. But he is not exactly on good terms with conservatives and, while he is an opponent of same-sex marriage, Christie often goes left on social issues. While he isnt quite the national figure Rudy Giuliani was, if Christie runs in 2016, he will have to figure out how to avoid the same pitfalls that tripped up the former mayor of New York City during his presidential bid in 2008. But thats down the road. As the Rasmussen poll shows, Christie should be able to cruise in November.
