Carlos Curbelo: Congress, Not Obama, Needs to Lead on Immigration
U.S. Rep. Carlos Curbelo, R-Fla., weighed in on U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen putting a stop on President Barack Obamas executive action on immigration on Wednesday, insisting Congress needs to take action instead of the White House.
It is my firm belief that Congress, not the president, must address our nation's immigration concerns by working towards a broader solution, rather than an executive order, Curbelo said. Judge Hanen's ruling underscores the perilous legal ground the president has to stand on in trying to justify his executive orders."
"It is time for Congress to get serious about overhauling our nation's immigration laws, Curbelo added. We must pass an immigration reform package that commits the resources necessary to secure our border, modernize our visa system, and create a tough, but fair, legalization framework for individuals who are already here. With over 11 million undocumented immigrants living in our country today, the immigration issue is no longer a problem that can be ignored or used as a pawn in political games."
