Berny Jacques Snags Local Endorsement in HD66 Race

Add one more name to the growing list of supporters for Berny Jacques' bid to the Florida House of Representatives.

On Tuesday, Seminole City Council member Roger Edelman gave political newcomer Jacques the seal of approval for his run to represent Florida's 66th House District next year.

“I believe Berny has a good understanding of the issues and concerns we are now facing in Tallahassee, and has the necessary qualifications and desire to get the job done,” said Councilor Roger Edelman upon announcing his support for Berny Jacques.

Jacques called the endorsement an honor and pledged to work with Edelman to represent the needs of HD66 in Tallahassee.

“I'm honored to have the support of a great community leader like Council Member Edelman," Jacques said. "He will make a great partner in making sure that there are great economic opportunities for the residents of our city.”

The announcement comes on the heels of an earlier endorsement from  former Largo police chief and current city commissioner John Carroll.

Jacques, an attorney, is running for the district which covers parts of Largo, Belleair, Clearwater and Seminole.

The young Republican has raised a hefty $40,000 since declaring his candidacy in March, but he may not be alone in his quest to head to the House chamber in Tallahassee.

Pinellas County Republican Executive Committee chair has also indicated he's got his eye on the HD66 seat, but has not formally filed to jump in the race just yet.

Jacques is running to replace Rep. Larry Ahearn, who faces term limits.
