After Noting Kendrick Meek was on Corrupt Candidate List, Jeff Greene Gets Added Himself

Earlier this week Jeff Greene took aim at U.S. Rep. Kendrick Meek, his chief rival in a bitter battle for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate election, noting that the congressman was included as part of a roster of corrupt candidates listed by Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). CREW looked at Greenes record -- and promptly put him on the list along with Meek.

CREW was already aware of many of Mr. Greenes shortcomings, but after receiving multiple tips on his candidacy, we decided to take a closer look, announced the organization. Mr. Greenes campaign appears to be violating campaign finance laws by not giving complete information about vendors he is using to run his campaign. Mr. Greene is self-funding his run for senate, in part, through a series of in-kind contributions. However, since he has not revealed his vendors identities, making a thorough investigation of his campaign is impossible.

UPDATE: The Greene campaign responded on Saturday afternoon.

"There is a clear distinction," said Luis Vizcaino, a spokesman for Greene. "Jeff Greene is the only U.S. Senate candidate not embroiled in a corruption investigation, unlike his opponents that have a history of taking money from the special interests. Jeff Greene wont take a penny from lobbyists or special interest groups and will always put the people of Florida first."
