AFP Send Out Mailers Praising, Bashing Florida Legislators

Americans for Prosperity’s (AFP) Florida chapter left no room for doubt that it plans to be a factor in the 2016 legislative elections across the Sunshine State.

With senators scrambling after the latest round of redistricting, AFP serviced notice on Tuesday that it intends to hold them accountable for backing a proposal from Sen. Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, which uses taxpayer funds for economic projects in the  entertainment industry. AFP announced on Tuesday it is sending out a direct mail piece on the matter.

“Floridians deserve to know what their legislators are pushing through the capitol as every one of those decisions gravely affects the outcomes for families and entrepreneurs to succeed in the sunshine state,” said Chris Hudson, AFP’s director in Florida. “Florida should not engage in a race-to-the-bottom-style spending spree. Florida already ranks fifth nationally in state solvency, while some of the key supposed competitors are ranking well below us. We should be focused on cutting red tape and taxes, because that is what can truly spur continued growth and prosperity.”

While taking aim at senators who opposed their priorities, AFP also praised House members who voted against Gov. Rick Scott’s call to send an additional $250 million to Enterprise Florida to lure businesses to the state. AFP also sent out a mailer praising those representatives.

“I want to commend all the members of the House who have already taken steps at passing a responsible budget,” Hudson said on Tuesday. “There is still work to be done, but the fact that these members are supporting a budget that does not include key corporate welfare handouts is a step in the right direction to ensure Florida families and entrepreneurs have the best chance at continuing to prosper in the Sunshine State.”
