Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam introduced the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Fresh For Florida Kids Garden in a ceremony at the Holland Building in Tallahassee on Monday.
We know there is a strong connection between good nutrition and academic success, Putnam said, and we know when kids connect where their food comes from theyre more likely to eat fresh fruits and vegetables, theyre more likely to develop lifelong healthy eating habits.
The garden, to feature in-season Florida commodities, is designed in the shape of a plate, paying respects to the USDAs new image for the five food groups, My Plate.
