Adam Putnam Comes Out Against Resort Gaming in Florida

Florida Agriculture Commissioner Adam Putnam came out against expanded resort gaming in the Sunshine State on Thursday.

What makes Florida special is our world-class natural resources and our international, family-friendly attractions. These resources are what is at stake in this debate about the expansion of gambling in Florida, Putnam said in a statement. Allowing Vegas-style casinos to come to Florida would hinder the states future economic development, would threaten the safety and security of our communities and would not benefit Floridas families.

We should not sell our state short in these difficult economic times and fall for the false promises that come with casino gambling, added Putnam. I'm proud to stand with Attorney General Pam Bondi and our partners in the business community to ask our fellow Floridians and the Florida Legislature to walk away from this debate about casinos and send a strong message that Florida is going to continue to invest in the attributes that make us great --our world-class natural resources and family-friendly attractions, hotels, restaurants and businesses.
